Introduction & Little Story
Hi joined up recently and been having a good read of the posts including some great stories - the paranoi in Wallmart seems to stand out as one I enjoyed
After recently purchasing an Omega PO big size I thought I would save up some cash and look to get myself an SD late in 2008. That was until I won some money on the slots at Vegas whilst I was out there watching the Mayweather Hatton fight. To paint a picture for you guys I probably look to others (small minded types that is) like an english football hooligan - shaved head, big build, tattoo sleeve etc. Anyway me, my borther and a mutual friend were out all night at a lovely little place called OG's (Olympic Gardens I believe?) Returning to the MGM at around 10.30am, looking kind of rough, hung over and worse for wear after a heavy session on the vodka and cokes We had around 2 hours until we had to depart for our flight from Vegas to our connection in Washington. I decided on a wim to spend some of my slot winnings on a Breitling SFSO. We set off to the watch place inside the MGM, I was dressed in a hoody with some bermuda shorts, we went in and were initially blanked by the two members of staff who were sucking up to a very well dressed guy both following him around the store asking what he would like to try on. After a good 5 minutes I was given a quick look and asked if I could be helped. I replied i was looking for the SFSO "none left" came the dismissive reply. I immediately replied in that case I'll take the Rolex SD The look of shock was unmissable my friend laughed as the two sales assistants rushed around to help as I brought the 6$k winnings out of my pocket. I then thought I would have a little fun and when asked if I had had a good morning in the casino replied sharply that I do not gamble, I then had them on tenter hooks as I pretended to mull over a decision to also take a submariner Now normally I wouldnt have bought based on the sales assistants dismissive attitude but the truth is I wanted that watch badly for a long time and am really glad I bought it. For the record the guy who was trying every watch under the sun on walked away without buyin a thing Moral of the story if there is one is that these sales type's should treat everyone equal, even the aggressive looking Brits |

I love it! Welcome to TRF! How's that SD working out for you? You should post some pics. Everyone here loves to see pics. I've had my SS Sub for 13 days and plan to post some as soon as I get my digital camera back.
Salute! |

Great story!
I have seen similar behavior recently at some of the ADs in Vegas. I was there with two friends Christmas week. I had on my Datejust and flashy diamond ring. One my friends had on his two flashy diamond rings. Other friend - female and no jewelery to speak of. When we would walk in the stores, the sales staff would almost always notice my Rolex and me & my friend's diamond rings and were all too eager to spend time showing us watches. My female friend couldn't get the time of day. It really irritated her as this behavior was so obvious. I think this happens a lot! |

Welcome to the forum; enjoy the SD - it's a great watch (I've had one for over 20 years). You hear so much about the Sub as an icon of the brand but I prefer the SD - it's the epitome of a tool watch.
Love your story too - I always like savor the poor judgement of such sales people. One would think in LV they would know better. |

In Las Vegas, some of the biggest looking losers (not you mate) are the ones with the $$$ to spend. The ones that are trying to look "too good" are just posing.

It made me laugh as I hold down a well paid job in the UK and wear at least shirt and tie daily, mostly a suit whilst working but on my time off I like to chill and dress chilled. For example only a small select number of people I work with know I sport a boat load of tats!!
The retail of the watch in the UK and I was told by three different AD's that no discount would be offered is £2930.00 Ill post some pics of the SD with my PO as well which I still love BTW but the Rolex has the edge, even though it was a lot more expensive I wear it almost every day as the lack of AR makes it more hard wearing I think ie with the PO im afraid of scratching the external AR coating so am extra careful with it. |

You're the only one who didn't listen when I said enough was enough. If you want to drag it out here you're obviously not paying too much attention to the signs again.

Lecatt,
Congrats on the SD. Human behaviour is a funny thing sometimes. As the saying goes, "never judge a book by its cover". |
