I have no need for the functions of the YM II. MY YM kicks tail on the YM II.

So since everyone hates it now, does that mean it'll be the hot vintage one to have years down the road?

Well, it clearly has a unique movement, so it's likely to be in short supply the same as any new Rolex.

Personally, I think the look of the watch sort of seems right for boat racing. I don't like the blue and red with the gold, but it looks better with white gold, and would probably look pretty good in steel.

The original YM looks like a blingier Submariner, but lacks the Sub's depth rating. I like the new one better, because there seems to be more of a point to it. It also makes sense that, since Rolex sponsors regattas that it should have a specialized regatta timer watch.

Anyway, all the collectors will wind up chasing this anyway, because it is a unique movement and it will be in short supply. With any luck, once they have this and the Milgauss to use as cookies for dealers, maybe they will start shipping out more SS Daytonas.

And speaking of the Milgauss, I think it's a less desirable watch than the YM2. The green crystal is a novelty, but doesn't improve the look of the watch much. The lightning hand is tacky, and the antimagnetic soft iron inner casing adds significant weight to the watch, but offers no benefit unless you plan to wear the watch around strong electromagnets.

I think the YM I is much better looking. The YM II looks like a carnival prize - way too flashy, in a bad way. The narrow hands also look innappropriate on such a large watch - something along the lines of the maxi-type hands would have been better. It's an expensive, esoteric watch, but if I ever ran across some guy wearing one I'd more likely consider him a watch "fashion victim" than someone to be envied.

Yes the YM II is unique, but how many people are actually going to use the regatta countdown function?
The movement is wonder for a mechanical watch and this is what we are perhaps not judging the watch on, more on it's aestethic appeal.
I feel it will become even more sought after than the SS Daytona, but that however does not make it attractive.

Yes. Because it is a unique movement, all the collectors will NEED it.

As for the functionality, I don't think many people here who get a Sea-Dweller need the depth rating beyond 300M or the helium release valve. I don't think the folks getting the Milgauss need the protection from magnetism.
