I think it's a busted spring. Has anyone run into this before? I can change the hour hand manually but it does not move.....Any thoughts on the issue? Anyone know what the repair cost would be?

I had one act weird- jump hand was all over the place... Could not set the time. The hands would then jump when the crown was pushed in to screw down. I called RSC Dallas, and they were receptive to looking at it, but it was over their holiday break, and would not tell me if they would do a "good faith" warranty repair since it was 2 months out.

In the end, I sent it to Athens RSC with a good buddy and they fixed it; charged a few euro, and when we asked what failed, the price went to zero, and they wouldn't tell us what went wrong.

Perhaps some watch techs could tell you more, but Id pull out the crown and stop the watch and not mess with it.

How old is it? Any warranty? I feel this is more of an issue than what we are aware of, due to Rolex being so hush hush.

I had a similar problem with my GMT II C recently, the hour hand started to freewheel when I would go to set it, it was not clicking hour to hour as usual.

Took it to my watchmaker with a Rolex parts account, he replaced a tiny spring that had broken, cost me $65 so I couldn't complain. He had two springs in stock, so it appears to be a not so uncommon problem.

Sounds like the same problem I had. Mine was under warranty so my AD sent it to Dallas. It took about 4 weeks to get it back, no explanation was given by Dallas as to what was wrong..

I had the same problem with mine. My AD fixed it in a couple of hours. There are at least one other thread about this problem if you want to read about others experiences.

Aside from MCV, is everyone else talking about the 3186 movement? If so, and this is more than a few isolated cases, is this happening on the Explorer II as well?

Anything else we can add to the list of problems with the GMT C? Bezels falling out, movement problems? I wonder if the same problem existed with the 3185 caliber?

I had the same problem with mine...3186 movement. So much for Rolex quality... The Dallas RSC fixed mine - fortunately it was only 3 months into the warranty period and it was gone only 10 days total - was happy with the service. My only worry is how robust will the repair be? If there's a fundamental design issue (which this many failures might indicate) - how long before it breaks again and I have to foot the bill myself?

All the 3187 is its a 3186 with the in-house made shock system

All watches have faults, like everything else mass produced. There is not one that is perfect...

My GMTc has been working fine since the fix, and a handful of issue compared to the huge quanity of watches isn't a big deal to me.

These things happen in real life! There is nothing on a mechanical watch that can't be fixed - if its a slight weakness or 'defect' in design on a early issue, that can be fixed, too! Nothing to lose sleep over!

I am one of those that reported jumping hour problem with gmt2c. When in position 2 the crown and hour hand was very loose. Soon when crown screwed back in the hour hand went haywire and didnt move at all. Got late 1hr for an appointment because the hour was stuck at 3. Brought it to rsc they fixed it 4 free. I now think there is a silent recall due to many similar issue. Because i baby the watch and yet broken
