RSC Service Advice for LV
Hi All,
I'll be sending my Z serial LV to RSC for service within the next year (starting to look a little rough and not in COSC spec) and am wondering what level of cosmetic servicing I should request/agree to. This has been my daily wearer for the majority of the last six years and I have not babied it in the least. The bracelet and clasp are very scratched and I have no problem having them completely rebrushed or refurbished as needed. However, the case has some dings that a simple polish will not remove. Does RSC let you dictate the amount of polishing they will do to the case or is it totally at their discretion? Also, my aluminum bezel insert is slightly faded and both it and the bezel's edges have noticable scratches. Should I replace the bezel and/or insert, or keep them original to allow them to reflect the age and "character" of my LV? FWIW, I am the original owner and will always keep this watch, so resale value is of no concern to me. Any input is appreciated. |

Since you are going to keep it forever and continue to wear it as a daily watch I would just send it and have them do the entire watch so it comes back looking brand new.
Leave it to them...they do thousands of them a year after all.

I sent my Sub to RSC. It was beat to hell. Bezel was scratched, case dinged up etc. I couldn't believe it when I got it back. Looked like new! Don't know how they do it, but it was amazing.

Since you will never sell it, then originality is not of prime concern - having them use their best skills to renovate it is what you pay for...
Does RSC let you dictate the amount of polishing they will do to the case or is it totally at their discretion? [I have not heard of RSC taking more material off than is necessary - and they will contact you if there is a concern. Mostly they recommend a new case if it can't be refinished to like new condition.] Also, my aluminum bezel insert is slightly faded and both it and the bezel's edges have noticable scratches. Should I replace the bezel and/or insert, or keep them original to allow them to reflect the age and "character" of my LV? [If you don't paint the house or walls for 30+ years, then maybe faded insert is better. If you like it to look new then replace the insert since originality won't matter.]

When my LV's service time comes up I'll let RCS work it's magic 100%.

RSC will send you a detailed quote & will require your authorisation to precede.
You can discuss what work you wish to be carried out when you have that info from them |

If you’re concerned about deep scratches or dings, send your Rolex to Bob Ridley in Arlington TX. He could laser weld the deep scratches/dings and polish the case without removing too much metal.

Seeing as resale is not an issue, I see how much you want to get done cosmetically dependent on how sentimental you are about your watch.
As this watch is a keeper, on one hand you may want to keep it looking as new as possible, just like the day you bought it? On the other hand, each scratch and ding may be representative of some event which is important to you. Maybe you want it to be handed down to your grandchildren with it bearing the testimonies of your life experiences. To be honest, I'm not sure what the right answer is, but I don't think there is a wrong one. I've asked the same question myself, but I've given myself some more thinking time as my watch isn't due for a service for a few more years. |

When the time comes I'm not quite sure what I'll do either. My Omega Seamaster is due for a service and I'll have that one done to look like new, but it's mainly a safe queen for now so that makes a difference. Tough decision.

I just got my Rolex back from the Dallas RSC. There were no dings on the case, but had some scuffs on the bracelet from desk diving. The crown had a scratch on it, as well. RSC recommended replacing the crown ($72) along with a full service. The watch looks brand new! It is sitting in the safe, and I plan to sell it as soon as Rolex announces their next price increase. I'm watching YG DD and DJ on the forum sale pages, and will turn white gold into yellow!

All good info and advice, thanks. I'm leaning toward letting RSC do as they will. Looking forward to having that "new watch" feeling again. And if there are one or two small dings that don't polish out, that keeps the watch uniquely mine.
Cheers! |
