If a SS Rolex cost the same as an Omega or Tag

The price was not the driver when I bough my Rollie.
It was all about the history, build quality etc etc. But if they were half the price then yipee.

Yep, i would still choose Rolex if the heritage and quality were as it is now. In all honesty i would by Omega, i just can't stand the fact it's part of Swatch and that they follow trend patterns so much.

They also own Breguet, Blancpain and Glasshutte. No brands to be sniffed at.

I'd have many better choices than Rolex.

Aside from the horrible looking diamond-laden models I find them to be reasonably priced for what you get.

It's simple for me Rolex creates markets, Omega/Tag follow those markets.

I love my Omega 2254.50, but it's a poorman's Sub IMHO. If the Sub cost the same as my Omega, my Sub would still be cooler, still more stylish, and more of an icon. The Omega would be the red=headed step child that might have been sold by now to buy another Rolly

I think yes, I don't know much about the Omega stuff because i never had one but i can tell you for sure that the TAG stuff is overpriced for what it is. i got a 2000 series chrongraph in 1988 for 600.00 and it was a good deal,that same watch now would be over 2000 and the quality hasn't gone up with the price increases.I would probably still wear that watch too but TAG says that they don't have parts for it anymore but Rolex has parts for my 30 year old GMT and you can't beat the quality,close price or not i'll take Rolex over the others any day.

I would not buy Rolex if price comparable to Omega. I would buy something more expensive. I need to show my co-workers that I am important!

I no, and I am aware that without the input of this mega firm swatch, then many of these brands may be no more. But when I think of the many ETA movements found in fakes, I wish swatch would regulate more who has access to their movement stock, plus imo, these brands have in some way been robbed of there heritage and uniqueness.

I totally concur with the last post. Omega is working on its brand and pushing prices up - which is a shame because they are such good value today. But there is something about the oyster case that makes me pleased I've got one. And the cal.3135 is very consistent.

I'm realistic enough to acknowledge why the likes of Swatch have acquired all those brands. But sometimes the end justifies the means. With ETA is must be just like any other business deal. If I order 100,000 movements and pay cash, who are ETA to refuse this? It's like with ammo for handguns, not all ammo is used for target practice. And still it is sold.

I concur! I much prefer the Speedmaster to the Daytona.

I also agree that the SMP is a lower cost substitute to a Sub. I wanted a Sub when I bought the SMP, but couldn't justify the Sub's cost. It didn't cure my desire for a Rolex Sub though, it just pushed me to the 16613 since, with the SMP, I already own a SS dive watch (yes I DO dive!).

If Rolex prices were lower, I would own SEVERAL. I love Rolex's despite the cost. The costs just prohibit the size of my collection. If Rolex were priced similarly to Tag/Omege/etc., I would not care about the depreciation and would have a SS Sub or SD, GMT, DD and DJ, in addition to my Bluesy.
