Cleaning watches with tooth paste, thoughts?

This is the most ridiculous idea I have ever heard, Use a mild dish washing soap, warm water and an extra soft bristle toothbrush. Do you know what toothpaste would do to 18K gold? probably scratch the hell out of it! Just stupid. Not on my watch, but to each his own.

IMO toothpaste may be too abrasive. I used to use soap and water BUT since using Veraet, that's the only way to go for me.

The best thing you can use toothpaste for is to rub it on your hands after you just cleaned or went fishing and handled bait, it will completely take the fish smell off your hands, I would only use it on a watch to fumigate the inside of a rubber watch strap. rubber straps sometimes smell after much use.

I used toothpaste to remove some scratches on my acrylic crystal and was very happy with the results. About 90% of the scratches were removed. Not sure if pollywatch would do a better job, but for a quick and free solution I don't even really care!

Hot to warm water and a clean microfibre lint free cloth is all I use.

I'm over being bothered about scratches, yet I would never consider using toothpaste to clean my watches. Dish soap and an old toothbrush works well enough.

As for my SS models, I just wear them while swimming my laps in the chlorinated indoor pool, wear them in the hot tub and wear them while showering with soap, shampoo and warm water; they stay clean that way.

The Gold/TT models get the same treatment sans hot tub.

The above program, along with putting the watch in my pocket or wearing a G-Shock for seriously gunky/knarly tasks works for me.

Varaet is fine but doesn't do anything that a clean rinsing soap won't. It's just appealing to people's need to pay for some magical cleaning product that is special in some way. Not to say that it doesn't work, but I've been washing my watches for years and after trying Veraet, I understood exactly why people buy it.

I think people assume that simple soap and water just isn't good enough and they need to do something special. If it wasn't the best way to clean, Rolex wouldn't recommend it. It couldn't be simpler.

Have to agree have been using plain soap and water for over 30 years and that's all that's needed with any Rolex oyster watch.
