So by that logic, old Daytonas with Valjoux movements are just mediocre time-measuring gadgets?

The in-house movement is a plus in the Rolex column, sure, but to state that the Heuer is flatly unworthy of serious discussion is way off base.

Rolex not even close. But between those two i would take the Heuer. The reason why is because they are both gold filled otherwise i would take the rolex n

I don't know if you're aware of the fact that Rolex produces it's own movements, contrary to Heuer. Rolex used Valjoux and Zenith movements in the Daytona because they'd chosen to do so for whatever reasons, contrary to Heuer who couldn't do otherwise.

See the difference?

But we are not talking about Daytonas here.

Vintage Heuer are very cool watches--especially the 1133B I own! No need to put them down and use the dummy emoticon as it makes you come off like an arrogant arse.

Not even that this is a rolex forum - there's really no comparison.

And the secondary market is MUCH better for rolexes.

Notwithstanding the preferred subject matter of the venue, my vote is for the Heuer.

Go Rolex.
Except this particular Rolex the OP is considering is hideous looking and the Heuer looks great by comparison.

Based on the responses in this thread, most people wouldn't want to wear that Rolex. It's just plain ugly, and no in-house movement is going to change that. Plus, the Heuer isn't exactly a clunker.

In this case, Heuer for sure. It's an amazing watch.

In-house movements, however impressive they are, aren't always a proof that a company is better than another. Rolex didn't always make them and neither did other brands like Patek Philippe or Audemars Piguet, at some point they all got some ébauches or parts from other companies and some of them only started to make their very own movements recently. Whether they make every single component of their mechanisms or not they can still offer high end products provided that their quality control is good, a lot of companies don't make actual watches and yet they've been able to supply well built parts to high end brands. Besides, I'd never go as far as calling myself an expert but I'd love to read where you got your sources for the part that I put in red in your post, it sounds really vague and I personally find it hard to consider it a fact...

There are different types of watches for different types of people, I think both Rolex and Heuer (or Tag Heuer nowadays) make reliable and tough watches and I don't think that the mere fact that one makes its own movements whilst the other one buys it from another company is enough to consider one better than the other, let alone bashing one of them.

Indeed they are Ken, I've thought about buying myself one of their chronographs quite a few times!
