Platinum day date II vs platinum Daytona

Day date II is 62 vs Daytona is 75. The Daytona price seems way high. Am I missing something?

I guess they are trying to make the platinum Daytona their new "flagship" model. Regardless of price the flagship rolex is and will always be a platinum 36mm DayDate on a president bracelet.

Agreed Movement is a big advantage to the sky or even day date 2 worse case is a tie so extra 13 large just due to it being the flagship?

Conspicuous consumption. Some people will want to pay more for the latest and shiniest model.

A chrono movement can't be more expensive than the sky or president movement. The platinum premium over WG is huge. So is it just due to the 50th anniversary model?

Maybe the Daytona's price reflects the price it'll be in a few months when they go on sale, at which point their might have been a price rise in the intervening time bringing up the DD2 Plat more in line with the Daytona's price?

May be its just plain greed on Rolex's part. The way Rolex has been pricing their watches is getting ridiculous.

so, you are saying, that you determine the flagship model, and not actually rolex themselves?

Neither, because I wouldn't think to purchase a watch if I was looking for jewellery.

There is nothing special about the "president" movement - it has an added little disk that shows the day of the week. The valjoux 7750 indicates the day of the week just the same. Nothing worth mentioning there.

unless i am mistaken, no where in any official or unofficial communication did rolex mention the platinum daytona being a 50th anniversary model. afaik, it's just an internet invention.

While it's not explicitly called an anniversary model, they do reference the Daytona model's 50th anniversary in this year's Basel material:
At BASELWORLD 2013, Rolex is introducing a new prestigious version of the Oyster Perpetual COSMOGRAPH DAYTONA, the emblematic model
launched in 1963, exactly 50 years ago this year.

Prices just become numbers when it comes to exclusivity, it has nothing to do with what you are actually getting.

Exactly, a PP steel 3939 minute repeater is more expensive than the precious metal version.
