114060 Crown Query

Hi guys

Crown query - no, not the orientation of the logo !!!!!!

I noticed today on my 5 month old ND Sub that the crown doesn't screw all the way down to the case

I realise that i'll need to back this up with a picture, but i thought i'd just ask if this was normal?

I was putting the watch on whilst walking down the stairs (which is pretty dumb in retrospect) and as i held it up to the light coming through the window i noticed for the first time that there is a gap between the crown and the case, i checked the crown was tight, which it is, but i'm still a little concerned

is this a quality issue?

thanks in advance
Adam

Try dipping your watch in the bath tub, if you see bubbles coming out then yes there is an issue with its crown lock up. hehehe jk... have it check, since it is still under warranty anyway.

There should be a tiny gap where the crown meets the seal.

Do not force it as you can harm the seal.

A small gap is normal when the crown is screwed down, and it should only be finger tight.

Hi Adam,

As has been said this is normal.

If it screwed down to the case there would be a problem with the crown seal.

This has been discussed many many times on forum the crown only needs screwing down just finger tight it does not need any force. If crown is tight to the case then the crown seal in the crown is badly worn or compressed or destroyed its that simple.

Left to right, HEV, Chrono pushers like on Daytona Tudor range,Twin Lock,Triplock.

thanks guys,

i never screw the crown on any watch more than finger tight, as soon as i feel resistance i stop turning (i understand the seal is the gasket, not the clamp load)

the watch has been immersed in water several times & i've never noticed any leakage

so it seems like all is ok *phew*

Totally norman, you're okay. If yo screw it down so tight that there isn't a gap then you've got a problem.

If you consider how the crown works with the seals, you can see that it wouldn't be possible to have the crown bottom-out on the case and still be able to make a reliable seal.

Great pic, padi56, thank you

If I could hijack the thread for a moment--what about the Datejust crown? The crown on my 116200 meets the case when screwed down with finger pressure. I think this is normal, correct?
