I had to put on a clasp on my strap and it had a screw instead of spring bar. To secure the screw someone suggest to used clear nail polish, as I don't really want to use Loctite 222 or 242 or 243.

Do I have to renew the nail polish periodically or leave it alone?

How good is nail polish in comparison to loctite?

Leave it alone after install. It will probably work the same as locktite.

While no one can really say for sure I've used nail polish on other small screws with no ill effects.
Just curious though why you wouldn't want to use a low strength locktite though?

I've used nail polish (not mine) seems to of done the job, not had to re-apply.

Always worth checking the screws periodically just to be safe.

I have taken off links on my Rolex and never used any thread locker on the screws afterwards. However the screw on the deployment clasp is in two parts and if come undone the watch would fall off.

Loctite, even the 222, needs heat to release the screw, so if I need to take off the deployment clasp, I cannot really heat up the screw as it is surrounded by the leather strap.

Someone recommended nail polish, which I have, so it was no point buying loctite 25ml when I only needed a speck amount.

I have never had to heat up 242 to remove a screw / bolt from anything, including very fine watch bracelet screws. The 222 is slightly milder and designed for smaller screws so you should be safe to use it in close proximity to your strap.

Try applying either product to a test item (fine threaded screw & nut) & see if it comes apart without heat. If so, then you might be able to put your mind to rest re: the heat issue.

Depends on if you get sick of the color and want a change....
