Remove The Hologram Or Leave It?
Just wanted to get everyones thought's on the holograms that come on rolex watches, I know they stopped doing them but some stores still have new old stock...
How many of you would remove the hologram and how many of you would leave them? |

Hi and welcome.....
Hologram stickers on the casebacks are normally not meant to be left on after sale. Most Rolex members here remove them (carefully) and place them on the certificate or on one of the supplied booklets. The new non-holographic stickers can be removed the same way, but I personally wouldn't keep it. Just not the same. Cheers, Steve |

I always thought rolex put them on there to see how much wear it has had.

The only reason I leave my sticker on, is to protect the case back from scratching, should the band accidently touch!

I would like to remove mine before it shows too much wear and affix it to the certificate. What is the best method for doing this?
Thanks,

On the Rolex watches that I have had that had the green sticker on the caseback, I peeled the sticker off immediately after purchase (but kept the sticker on a piece of plastic). The sticker can cause steel pitting (corrosion), although it is rarely seen. This is one of the reasons why Rolex chose to omit the green sticker. Also it tends to assemble bacteria underneath it.
Better just take it off, using your fingernails, and remove the glue with a bit of Zippo fluid on a cotton cloth.

Try olive oil or any other vegetable oil >>>>>
after you peel off the sticker. That will remove the sticky stuff and they are less harsh on you, your watch and the environment than other solvents.
Just try not to get too close to a salad or your watch may be mistaken for dressing. Jim |

I removed mine pretty quickly. It's just another sticker on the watch.

I found that the best way to remove it (without using a fingure nail or anything else) was to take your thumbs and apply pressure and just slide the sticker off. It works very well, I then use an agent called GooGone to remove the sticky stuff left behind on the case back...
I have met a lot of people who leave that sticker on for a long time... I always thought it was something rolex intended you to leave on the watch. I guess I was wrong which is why they stopped using stickers.. too bad tho, I liked the look of the worn sticker on the case back. I guess I will remove my last case back sticker then, I do not want pitting. My one watch is about a year old, Do you think there could be pitting after a year of having the sticker on it? |

Yes, I would definitely remove. Seems like it would be a bacteria and dirt magnet after a while.

I peeled the non-hologram sticker off my GMT and tossed it. I saw no reason to leave it on and it was mucking up the back of my beautiful watch.

I kept mine on for a week and a half and then removed it. I think the steel feels a lot better on my wrist than the sticker. Take it off.

Off the sticker goes. After a period of time, it starts to wear off anyway, and can become a mess. Be proactive and remove it now!

Yeah, some really put much value in the sticker, but did you REALLY have to toss your GMT??

Only one of my Rolexes came new (the GMT). I left the sticker on because I was told that if I removed it, my belly button would come unscrewed and my ass would fall off.
After two years of wearing the watch, I happened to look at the case back (I'm not in the habit of examing the back of my watches). The sticker was at least 50% worn away. I took some lighter fluid and a cloth and rubbed what was left off. And guess what, . . . My ass didn't fall off.

Dont touch it! leave it in the box, wrap it in 2 pillows, put it in a warm place in the house where no on ever goes, leave it to your offspring with strict instructions not to look at it and to pass it to their offspring to sell as a collectors item 50 years after that.
Or.............................wear it and enjoy it as the wonderful creation it is. It may get a ding or two, but hey, we have all fallen over and grazed our knees, and it didnt do us any harm. |
