Submariner, model 1680, circa 1978, complete with accessories

This outstanding Submariner, model 1680, circa 1978, is being offered for sale to make room for two vintage GMT’s that I have added to my GMT collection. Although I do not normally collect Submariners, when I was called by my Rolex authorized dealer several years ago and offered this Submariner, I did not hesitate to purchase this fine Rolex. The watch case, bracelet, bezel, bezel pearl, bezel insert, silver date wheel, dial and hands are all original from when it was sold new. (This was a one owner watch before I purchased it. The original owner was trading it in on a newer model Rolex.)

The 93150 bracelet has virtually no noticeable wear or stretching between the links. The Rolex crown stamped on the outer clasp is still very crisp and visible. The inner clasp blade is stamped 93150 with a “VB” date code.

The dial markers have a very nice patina, not too yellow and not too white. The original hands also have a nice, aged patina. The original bezel insert is in very good condition with a few light surface scratches that do not go too deep to expose the base aluminum of the insert. The bezel pearl also shows its age with a nice patina which is close in color to the dial markers.

The case itself is in excellent original condition and has been properly maintained, buffed and serviced by Rolex. There has been no laser welding or other modification done to the case to make it appear original and untouched – other than proper buffing by a trained, certified Rolex watchmaker. The lugs are still quite “fat” and appear very, very nice.

The watch was completely serviced by a certified Rolex watchmaker at an authorized Rolex dealer when I purchased the watch. I have not worn the watch since purchase, except for a few days after purchase.

The Submariner has seen very little wear which is evidenced by the photos and is thus priced accordingly.
