Yes, cats should be considered very dangerous. They can slice and dice you, given the chance...and they are always looking for the opportunity. They are little sociopaths. That's why I will never get a cat. Dogs, dogs, dogs.
As a young boy, I had a cat that would attack innocent people just because she could. Learned my lesson quickly.
