New Sub C - Keeping Time

New Sub C owner here and have to say I'm a bit overwhelmed by all of the info on this forum. So my question.... My watch has been a bit all over the place with keeping time. I have used time.gov as my reference point. Some days, first few, it was running 20-30 seconds fast. In the last few days it has been running about 4-6 seconds fast. What's strange is that it will keep perfect time overnight, but seems to gain time during the day when I wear it. I do a lot of walking 4-5 miles per day? Could this be impacting the ability to keep time. My buddy has a Sub that is 18 years old and his was 3 seconds fast over a week. Should I call the AD where I got it? Do watches have a "break in" period.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Wearing it during your daily activities should not cause that much variation of accuracy...30 seconds is crazy.

Yes, I would certainly watch to see if it is calibrated correctly since it is a new watch.

20 to 30 seconds is crazy. I would be curious.

Was it a bit sporadic when new?

Yes the first time I wore it because I did not wind it fully, it's also gotten better time keeping than ever before, as per USNO telephone number. Maybe because I rest it on its side crown up at night?

Give it a few weeks of constant use and it will likely "settle in". That has been my experience more than once over the years...

I would set it then after a few days of normal wear check it again and find the daily average.

Make sure it's fully wound, 40 full clockwise turns.

When the power reserve is low the watch will tend to run faster (though not 20-30 seconds fast!).

Just like a car engine, watches have a breaking in period. Give it a month, if it keeps on doing the same it could mean that your Sub got magnetized! Anyways warranty sure take care of any issues.

I would make sure that the watch has been wound fully and give it a day wearing. If it is still 20-30 seconds fast I would bring it back. I know watches can have a break-in period but I think 20-30 seconds is a bit too much for my liking. I might go along with the break-in theory if it was 8-10 seconds or something just outside the spec, but 20-30 seconds, no.

Yep, first off give it a good wind of 40 turns. Next you really need to time it for daily gains and losses over several days....like 5 or 10. Either way, it definitely has a breaking in period, and as much as 20 to 30 seconds is extreme...might as well let it finish breaking in for a month or two before sending it back to Rolex for regulating.

As far as walking and taking it off...neither of which should matter or effect you at all assuming the watch started off with a full wind to begin with and assuming your not leaving it off for 42 hours or so!
