Need tips buying my first Royal Oak
Hey
I am buying myself a RO. I just want some input from people with experience. Currently I only have one offer, to trade my 116610 (fullset, 2012) with a guy and pay about $4700 to get a 15202 (no box, no paper) from 2004 but in very good condition. Service history unknown, so it might be in need of a full service. Is that a good deal? I was going for a 15300 at first but this is what I got at the moment. I don't know what I miss if I get the 15202. If this isn't a good deal, what is? Please help me and if you have tips where to look (some shop, dealer or anything) in Europe it would be great to know! Grateful for the help I can get! |

Let's be liberal and say your 116610 is about $8000. That would put the value of the 15202 at $12,700. IMO that's about right for a complete excellent condition 15202. However as this has no B&Ps and uncertain service history, I'd negotiate the cash component down. It really depends on what he's valuing your SubC at.
The 15202 is a classic but it does not have a second hand or hack. Nor does it have a quickset date. It's also VERY light compared to your SubC. The 15300 is more like the 116610. Second hand, hacking, and more heft. Ultimately both are exceptional pieces. You just need to decide what you want. |

Seems too good to be true to me but I don't know much about the second hand value of the 15202. A 15202 without box, paper or service history is worrying for me. I would prefer a complete set, but might not be an issue for you. I would be concerned from where the watch is coming from.
The 15202 is a beautiful watch but I prefer the 15300 if you compare it to your sub, the 15300 would wear more similar. Last edited by GarageBMW; 25 August 2013 at 08:02 AM.. Reason: correcting typo |

Personally I won't put my bet for $12000 bucks for a watch without paper, that would worry me too much about authenticy and history. Look for something that you can do for that much money.

You could be spending a lot of cash fixing that 15202 if you have no service history on it.
Try to negotiate down the cash part of the deal if you can. Mitch Sent from my SGH-I337M using Tapatalk 2 |

I looked at a 15202 on Ebay that hadn't been serviced since the purchase in 2002. The price was going for like $14000. It came with B&P's but the fact that I would probably have to send it to AP for service was a factor that I needed to consider.
I passed on it. |

B&P is pretty important for me, also I wanted a blue dial. So I'm not 100% at all for this, I was just wondering to see if this is a really good deal I should take. A side question: do you think it will be a problem to only own the royal oak? I'm selling my speed master and subc to afford this but several people has told me that it's a bad idea since this is more fragile and it's stupid to have this as the only watch (I have Casio, seiko too). |

If the 15202 has no service history, box or papers - it would be recomended that you send it in for a checkup. They would likely suggest a full service which would set you back over $1,000 plus being without the watch for another 6 weeks plus.
I love my Jumbo, but would look for another in this instance if that's the way you go. 15300 (can get the blue dial), sounds like it might be a better fit coming from the Sub. Good luck! AP is simply awesome. |

15300's are getting harder to find as they're discontinued. Good luck on your search.

This new 15300 is available in London at a good price. T4D have a real store, specializing in diamonds, and I would suggest you fly over and pick up the watch in person if you can. Otherwise buying thru ebay/paypal will protect you. Call them rather than email and ask questions first to see if you are happy to deal with them.

I'd watch the for-sale section in this forum for one. If one pops up from a trusted seller, you know it's legit.
FYI, if you're only going to have 1 watch / 1 Royal Oak for daily wear, I agree it should be the 15300 or 15400 instead of the 15202, since they're more versatile/robust. But for a watch that will be part of a rotation and can avoid very active or rough days, I prefer the 15202. |

What sort of nut job buys a £14,000 watch and loses the box and papers? I'd buy a 15202 but only with the box and papers. After all it could be stolen and in that case you'd never get it back from the service.
