Hard call but I'd trade it. It won't honor the gift if you don't wear it because you don't love it. So keeping it just to keep it won't help much.

I can see about half the folks here whining and stomping their feet and crying "I don't want that one, I don't want that one" !!

I am glad, SirGrotius, that you will be taking a higher road..

I for one would of been happy with any rolex as a gift....but then to trade it in on the same watch with a different color dial...yikes.

Oh boy, if someone gave me a GMT as a gift I'd clutch it with all four limbs and kick anyone who tried to take it. That's a special watch from a special lady.

Sure there are watches I want more, I've owned several GMTs, but that one would be a keeper. Let the next watch be the one you've been eyeing and wear this one and think of her

It turned out perfect, because she didn't "like" the GMT (bought it because I mentioned the new black and blue one as a second option), and wanted me to go with the black-dial Exp II. I always wanted that one, too; I'm a loyalist in many ways.

Here's a quick view:

[QUOTE=BMcGee;4396386]I would return it.

She already knew you wanted the blue one but decided to get you a different one because the AD didn't have it. It's kind of an insult.

Wish my wife would insult me like this

Depends on your wife, but I've always had the thought that if someone doesn't like the present I got them, they better return it because I will be insulted if they keep something they don't like!

For example, I had my fiancee's engagement ring custom made. It cost around 20,000, and was by far the most expensive purchase I've ever made (besides cars). When I picked it up, it wasn't quite what I wanted, but my fiancee was getting antsy (she didn't know I had already purchased a ring). Since it took about two months to make, I didn't want to wait another two months to have it redone. Instead, I decided I would give it to her and let her decide if she wanted to change it. Of course she said she loved it. Several months later, she finally "admitted" that it wasn't quite what she had wanted. She said that she felt really bad, etc., etc. It in no way hurt my feelings, but it was much more difficult to explain to the jeweler that although we had had it 6 months, she didn't like it.

In the end we had it remade. Was I upset? Of course not. It is something very personal to her that she will wear everyday. I want it to be exactly what she wants.

On something as personal as a ring (or a watch for an enthusiast), only the recipient truly knows what they want. The point of a gift is the gesture, not the actual item. Even if you return it and get bluesy, it is still a gift from your wife. Even more so, every time you look at it it will make you happy. Much better than looking at a watch and thinking how it is almost what you wanted, but not quite.

Long story short, you buy a gift to show you care about someone. It is the thought behind gift giving, and not the item, that counts. She picked something she thought you would like. She was wrong. No big deal. Haven't you ever done something you thought your wife would like, but she didn't?

Don't keep it. Your wife will understand - she already expects it and ultimately she wants you to be happy. No reason to live with something that makes you both feel uncomfortable - especially when it should be something that brings you both joy.

Just express how appreciative you are of the thought of the gift, but tell her you prefer the other model instead.

x2 here. A watch is a very personal item and its really the thought that counts!

This is coming from a husband who has returned/exchanged many gifts for his wife.....people just like what they like and I'm no longer bothered by it!

Keep the watch your wife bought for you; out of love and desire to buy her spouse something special for his special day. Wasn't what you wanted? It's a multi-thousand dollar Rolex--the only diff between this and the other is the perceived specialness of the dial/hand/bezel combos. Otherwise it's the same damn watch.
100% right. she will be hurt I'm sure even though she may not show it and remember........women NEVER forget

Why is this thread still going? The OP has already exchanged his watch. Some of you are late to the party and don't bother reading through the posts before you comment.

Go for what you want (BLNR).. at the end of the day, even if the element of surprise might have been missing, you and your wife will save the extra $9k or so, if it means you buying another BLNR in the future. you'll be very happy, and she'll eventually be happy that you're happy.

I made the same mistake once upon opening a gift from my wife. If I were you, I'd keep it and be happy you have a wife that cares enough to give you a pretty amazing gift. Or you can just give it to me :)

For SirGrotius

Well First Of All I read these 3 pages.

Second Congratulations!

Third I show to my Wife and She read Everything like me.

And she gave me two examples!!

1- If I gave her something(purse, shoes, watch) and she doesn´t like, She will tells me, and exchange for what she wants.

2-If she gave me a Omega for example and I didn´t like so much, She will allowed me to change for something I will wear and enjoy!!

AfterAll, You have a Amazing Wife, Makes she Happy for the next time
