Converting a 1600 back to SS from TT
Hi, all. I have my Dad's 1600, which was apparently converted to two-tone before my Mom gave it to him. With his blessing, I'd like to convert it back to stainless, replacing the dial, hands, bezel and crown. Have any of you done this? Does anyone have a ballpark on the price? Would any of the Rolex specialists mentioned in this forum be especially good at this? I assume it's not complicated, more just sourcing the parts, but I'd want to get it cleaned and serviced at the same time.
And one other question: Would a 93150 fit both the 1601 and a 5513, I'm assuming with different end links? Thanks in advance, Dave Last edited by dbt001; 12 September 2013 at 05:48 AM.. Reason: Originally wrote 1601 in the post body. |

Converting 1601
You'll need a fluted white gold bezel which should be around $200.00, or a smooth bezel will cost you around $150+. You probably don't need to replace the dial and hands if they have white gold indexes and white gold or stainless hands.
I've seen the whole set dial and hands on VRF for around $250.00. Unless, you want to go with the more desireable combo such as Fat Boy set up, or the matte or gilt black dial, which could set you back around $800-$1K if you can find them. The 93150 braclet will fit the watch with #558 endlink. However, the 93150 sport-diver watch links are little too thick for the 1601 in my opinion. |

Thanks very much. It has a linen dial with yellow gold indices and hands, so I'll want to replace those. I thought about a matte black dial, but I think I'll go with a silver as I have roughly 11,000 other watches with black dials.
I just realized I originally wrote 1600 in the title and 1601 in the post. It's a 1600. |

This is an easy job. After considering the trade-in value of the parts you are taking off, your cost should be negligible. My good friends at ABC in Los Angeles can handle this one in short order, and anything else you may need at that time.
