Not to mention with the exception of someone I dealt with regularly, the sales people at time machine have never taken me seriously. Which Is unfortunate because I am a legitimate buyer.

Tourneau in NY may be fooling themselves with their pricing on certain pieces..

For what it's worth, the staff at Tourneau do seem quite approachable and willing to talk. Definitely moreso than William Barthman (downtown Manhattan). The manager there, a chap by the name of Richard Granatoor, was downright rude in his handlings.

I was appalled by his behavior, and did some googling. Turns out that I'm not alone.. he was previously at Tourneau white plains

I bought a Omega Speedmaster Reduced at their flagship store in New York back in 2003. I was in college and just learning about watches, and it was the first place I found to try on and compare the brands and watches that I was interested in. I had a positive experience, but likely because I dealt with the same salesman during my three visits before I pulled the trigger and because I didn't know any better at the time.

I must say that TRF has been a great place to educate myself about watches (I'm mainly a lurker) but it has also done nothing but feed the addiction. At least I'll be better informed the next time I buy.

I'll have to answer no to your question. In fact, I don't even live in the United States so even if I wanted to (and I do not) I wouldn't be able to get hired at Tourneau.

I agree that a bit of research and some knowledge would be a great asset to salespeople, especially in this field. However, a lot of people will not buy watches for their passion for horology or the history of the brand, therefore (although I think it's a shame) I'm guessing their bosses wouldn't want to pay to train them if they feel like it's not going to be that useful to sell Rolex watches or any other brands.

As for selling above MSRP, I did say I didn't agree with that at all. I'm not sure how my post could give the impression that I'm trying to defend Tourneau itself (let alone that I work for them), I just wanted to point out that laughing in the faces of the salespeople is rather pointless, especially when they most probably have an awful lot of people above them who are most probably responsible for the things we dislike about those stores, whether we talk about the lack of knowledge (they could most probably do some research at home indeed but it's not what they're paid for, they're mainly paid to sell jewelry), the prices or the sales speeches (the prices are out of the control of the people who work in the store and their speeches must have been taught by their bosses, I doubt everybody gets hired because they happen to know exactly what to say to sell a watch).

Reminds me of Ben Bridge here in the Seattle area. I remember seeing a sub LVc they had which was marked at $12k.

We have one in the king of Prussia mall, I popped in last night just before I picked up my new MacBook Air. I've been looking at rolexs and when I've saved sufficient money I'll be buying something from the range (not quite decided yet) and as I'm looking through I see a white dial explorer 2. I ask if I may look at it, and he says sure. He takes it out and turns the watch around and as I go to take it out of his hand he says.... Sorry we don't let people browsing handle watch in this price category! I said ok thank you, you can put that away, and I quietly left the store. I couldn't believe that they wouldn't let a potential customer look at and fondle the watch which he might have said ill take it. I will assure you that when I'm ready to lay down $8k+ on a watch they won't be getting it.

Not entirely defending @feelingtheblues, but at the end of the day the clerks at T are just employees, and should be treated with respect. It's truly management's fault for hiring them and the blame should be put squarely on the management corps. Just think, aapl hires from the same employee pool, yet they find people with passion for the brand/product. Shame on T management. Too bad they don't announce same sale comps, because I'm sure they ain't too good.

Snobs will remain snobs, however, most of them are hired to sell, not to know everything about watches. Heck, some of them may not even be into horology at all! I just don't see the point of your post and personally think it's done in poor taste.
I think it was just a joke. Listen if you think a good salesmen doesn't need to know about the product they are selling you are wrong.

If I go to an AD to spend that kind of my precious hard earned money, I better be greeted with a smile, and walk out of there knowing something I didn't about the watch I just purchased. My 2 cents. You don't need to defend all salesmen, I am sure you are a very good one- if that's what you do!
