Heuer Monaco Chronagraph.

A friend is looking to buy a used Steve MCQueen re-edition and as I'm looking around it's got me interested in one myself. Please can you tell me how good these watches are and if they are reliable. What movements are in them? I notice there are some with 2 and 3 register configurations. Were the original versions better from the 60s? Does TAG Heuer have a good service centre in UK to look after vintage watches too? Any info on these watches and their history, however small, will be greatly appreciated.

Bought mine new from an AD while vacationing in Maui 2005. Love the classic styling. I get more compliments on the Monaco than all my other watches combined. Bid fan of two tone subs on the Steve McQueen version which is a reissue of the original late 60's model. The movement is an ETA 2824 [I think]. Not sure about their service.
Highly recomended!
dP

P.S. Wristshot and pic of my yakin' with the locals.

Nice watch, Dan. Please tell me if it make the same spinning noise as your Tudor Chrono (Valjoux 7750 wobble) makes when it's winding or is it much quieter?

No. The 7750 only winds in one direction and thus will spin like hell in the other direction with a certain wrist movement. The Tag has a rotor that winds in both directions. It makes a noise but not like the 7750.
Hope that helps,
dP
