That Carrera has one of the most unique sounds I've ever heard. It's a frightening, high revving sound that definitely sounds out of place on city streets. The one I drove a few years ago raised the hair on the back of my neck and dumped a load of adrenaline into my system. I've never seen or heard a Gemballa version and that is even more awesome.
But even though I'm a stupid Porsche nut, the most beautiful sound I've ever heard from a car came out of a 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB "Daytona". No pollution control equipment and the sound was a mix of basso profundo exhaust on the bottom with complex metallic whirrings and jinglings from the 12 cyl. engine on top; a sort of italian symphony controlled by your right foot. And when you hit the upper range, the roar of the engine suddenly became this unearthly howl. It is a sound that I'll never forget. |
