IWC From AD

Does anyone have any experience purchasing an IWC watch from the AD? What is the percentage of discount I can push for on IWC watches at the AD? I am looking to purchase an IWC Aquatimer Chronograph Black dial. Thanks!

IWC discounts will vary, depending upon the AD, as well as the specific model.

I would suggest these two, as their pricing is generally very good, as is their service:

Al Armstrong - Armstrong Rockwell.com
Chad - WatchConnection.com

Call them, as they will not quote you via email. Good luck!

About 20% on all IWC watches except limited editions will probably command list or you'll be sometimes lucky to get one discounted.

I had an IWC Doppelchronograph 12 years back in 1996. I got it from an AD who got my SS "Zenith Daytona" as trade object. It was quite a good deal for me at that time since the Daytona (at that time!) only was half the price of that of the IWC D.C. He even specially ordered it for me directly from IWC Schaffhausen, and it came in the huge wooden box. Now they only come in "standard" boxes.

Later I flipped the D.C., too, and wanted it back some years later. So I went to the same AD and asked what kind of discount I could get. He would only give me 10 %.

And now the D.C. is no more made (only in a ceramic version).

Depressing thought is that TODAY, the price of a LNIB "Zenith" SS Daytona would be almost the double of the price of the IWC D.C. So seen in retrospective, I guess the deal was not that good.

OUCH. That trade doesn't look good today, but it wasn't terrible at the time.

I love IWC, but personally, I would never pay over $2K for any chronograph based off a Valjoux 7500.

I loved the design of the D.C., but there were certain characteristics with the ETA 7750 beating in the D.C. that I did not like:

1) Very audible rotor noise (not a fault. That's how it was).

2) Poor timekeeping (well, relative for a mechanical watch!): + 10 secs./day despite numerous regulations it kept speeding up.

Although the IWC brand is quite excellent, I have seen them sold occasionally even via places like Overstock.com, so I would guess you could press for 30%, but since AD's work from a higher cost structure and sometimes have price restrictions to meet from the manufacturer, you might wind up with 20%. It also makes a difference as to what city you are in--AD's in places like Vegas usually don't discount while dealers in California and New York often will, although even then this won't always be true. Most people I know of like their IWC's so my guess is that you will be pleased. Good luck.
