Blancpain or Zenith ?
Here's my question: I have a chance to trade my SS/18K Cartier Santos at a good value, but only if I get a higher priced watch at the same time. I don't use the Cartier any more, plus it is Quartz, and I prefer to have only mechanical watches for my collection.
Here are the options: a) Blancpain Leman Chronograph. It is in mint condition, but has no box or papers. I can have it for $4800.00 b) Zenith Chronomaster Open. Mint condition, comes with box and papers. Also $4800.00 c) Finally, Zenith Grande Class Reserve de Marche. New, with box and papers. $3600.00 I am getting roughly $1950 for my Cartier. Any opinions will be highly appreciated. P.S. The order of the pictures is Z-Chrono, Z-Grande, Blancpain. |

Well, I'm strictly going by appearance here. Not crazy about the hands or the dial of the Zenith Grande. The Chrono open seems promising, but besides the open part, the rest of the dial seems lackluster. I like the BP, but I like it better in black. Also, is it a flyback or a regular BP chrono? Anyway, if these are my choices, I pick the BP.
By the way, I am also guessing the sizes are slightly different. I think the BP is 37-38 mm, while the others look slightly bigger. |

Yes, the BP is 38mm and the others are 40mm.
Any comments on the brand and/or price? |

From my experience with both brands, I think that Blancpain is slightly above Zenith in overall finish and quality. Blancpain is also more exclusive, and that F. Piguet caliber is top-notch.
Having owned 3 Blancpain models, I feel that they are a tiny bit above Zenith, Rolex, OMEGA, etc. Plus, I really like the white dial on the Blancpain models. They are REALLY white and nice. |

I really like the Zenith Chronomaster Open
You might consider purchasing it from Zeetan at www.collectorstime.com
Brand new in the box for $5500, and he's a terrific seller. Beautiful finish and movements, Zenith is outstanding. |

You can get Zenith from Amazon. Personally, I love the Class series.

I'd go for the Blancpain. Although I like Zenith in general, the dial design of the two shown are too busy for my liking.

I'd go with option "c". That was the one that I found most appealing.

For me personally, it would be either A or C, as I don't like the design of the Zenith "open" models. That being said, both make excellent watches. While Zenith has a lower level of finishing (which doesn't affect performance particularly) and Zenith has an exellent reputation for making chronographs, I would pick the Blancpain although either way you will get an excellent watch. The advantage of the Blancpain is that it is much more exclusive while Zenith movements have been renouned for decades as being reliable and robust. It depends on which qualities you want to prioritize.

Frostie, no one pays retail, especially not for a Blancpain ;)
At retail prices, Blancpains are not worth it because if you spend a bit more, you can get a Patek. For the record, I paid far less than $4600. |

Blancpain Leman Chronograph.
No brainer for me. I'd love to have that watch. I'm going strictly on appearance. |

I have no affiliation with the seller, but there is a Leman Monaco Flyback that's just been serviced and comes with extras for under $4600 on TZ. If I had the funds, I would jump on it.

Nice, Lardog
Got to love Zenith's 36,000bph as well. Smooth as butter. |
