116660 serial numbers
Is there any way to determine approximate age from the serial number on a new 116660? I've seen references to V and M numbers and others. Which series is the newest?

Well I'm no expert here but mine is only a year or 2 old and it's a "G" serial.

Rolex don't make series of any watch they are case serial numbers, now at the moment we have the single letter G serial with 6 numbers, plus the random serial a mixture of letters numbers a total of 8 digits. Now all we can tell from these serials is the cases were stamped some time between the latter part of 2010 till present time. And M serials ran from 2007 well into 2008 or possibly longer, and V serials were first seen around 2008 but ran well into 2010, and no matter the case serial if bought new from any AD they all get the same two year warranty.

One more thing: if you're asking which is newer between a "V" and a "M" my understanding is the "M" series were among the first versions.

Short answer is yes - approximately.
Cases number are fair approximation of age until the Random #'s. Here's a list of the ones you asked about. Serial# .... First Seen in Wild M ............. October 2007 V ............. August 2008 G ............. Spring 2010 (and the start of random serial numbers)

It may be what you are looking for, but it is misleading..
Those dates are approximations of when these letters were first seen. They then went on to produce those serial prefixes for 3 to 4 years and there is overlap. So, an M in a display box may be "newer" than a V sitting right next to it.. don't fall into the trap of thinking that all M's, for example, were made and sold in 2007.. That would have been a physical impossibility..
