Need Help Understanding RSC
Hi Guys,
Some very, very knowledgeable on here, so I was hoping to get an insight on what might be happening whilst my watch is at the RSC. I physically took my 114060 to St James London get the bezel triangle aligned with the 12 indicator as it was slightly out. RSC confirmed it was out & that they'd rectify this under warranty :-) It was agreed that once the work was complete they'd send the watch back, rather than me make a long trip back to London. Expecting it back by now, I called them today. My watch is currently in Kent (the main UK RSC location) It's been held for "testing" What testing? I asked Waterproofing and maybe time keeping, came the answer But you haven't taken it apart - you've taken the bezel off "We like to test the watches that come in & we need it for at least another week" was the answer [note: they've already had it over 2 weeks and the original estimate was 1 week] I'm no watchmaker.... but I know full well that a run on the timing machine & a pressure check is a very short piece of work I also know my watch is running well within CSOC & I doubt it leaks being under 1 year old So what's going on here?? Have they found a problem that they're rectifying? Have they created a problem that they're rectifying? Do RSC really keep every watch in for 2+ weeks of timing & pressure testing?? Thanks in advance |

Being that it's still under warranty they're probably just going over everything to make sure it's running properly & also to make sure all the seals are set properly to insure its waterproof.

The RSC can pressure check and regulate a watch in about 30-40 minutes. I've had this cone under warranty at the RSC in NYC on a couple of occasions. I can not imagine what they are doing with your watch that would take that long.

To understand correctly, you're upset because you came in with a bezel that was a tiny bit off and they're ensuring the rest of the watch is functioning perfectly before it leaves the shop?
I wish every company was so thorough. Let them do their checks. Doesn't that best driving back to the RSC with another problem?

Since it is at the UK RSC, perhaps this video will help you see the testing done after work is performed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Jr5X62EKNo
I agree that a simple bezel adjustment may not require it, but who knows? It would have made sense to do it while you waited - but alas the RSC got it. BTW, the first week was prolly spent "waiting in line" to get a watchmaker assigned. The work volume is done in sequence and other watches were probably in line before yours.

This is normal as they are probably just backed up. I had drop my Day-Date off at BH RSC for a date wheel replacement. It took about two weeks and when I called, They kept it two extra days to check timing. To replace the date wheel should take about 30 mins. They will list everything that they did to your watch so no worries. Your watch is in good hands.

I'm glad they're being thorough, I'm perplexed it's taking so long to pressure test and time check It will end up being a minimum of about 300% longer than the RSC technician told me it would take when I handed the watch in |

They are probably back-logged to some degree, I would not worry at this juncture.

I would suggest letting them do their thing. They want to be sure that you are totally satisfied, I'm sure. I wish other companies were giving customer service as Rolex does.

I'm surprised at the comments, quoted 1 week turn around and heading for 3 or more. What about under promise and over deliver....????

This is your first service of the watch? With all high end watches, it takes a long time because there is a wait period. Most of the time is spent doing nothing, waiting to get serviced. Sort of like going to the doctor. Yes, it sucks but that's the way it is with high end watches. So get use to it! :)

there's a post on this forum where someone (also in the UK) had this done while they waited!! so I'm confused why they're keeping it for 3 weeks, claiming 2 of those 3 weeks for 'testing' I can understand that they take this opportunity to CONFIRM time keeping and water resistance, but not that it takes 2 weeks Unless they found/made a problem that requires greater work.... |

Good to know its back, was reading your thread and wanted to know when the watch will be returned safe and sound, guess they were probably quite busy at the service center.

Would the misalignment not have been a quality control issue at the very outset? Presumably it was fairly easy to see?

The question is do you want it done fast? Or done right.
Most RSC take about six weeks. |

"what are you spending a week testing" the reason for the question is that it doesn't take a week to pressure test a watch & put it on a timing machine especially one you haven't taken the back off |

it was only minutely out (not like some pix you see) you could 'fix it' yourself by carefully aligning the bezel between clicks after a while it got old having to twiddle my bezel every time I wanted to line it up [damn first rolex honeymoon period lol] I asked rolex to align the bezel against the stop (that prevents clockwise bezel turn) they told me it was supposed to align between clicks but were HAPPY to change they way mine aligned to please me and I'm just that - pleased |
