FS: Vintage 105.012 Omega Speedmaster Professional with extras
Back in 2004, I acquired my first Speedy Pro, a 3570.50. Yes, Omega said it was the first watch worn on the moon and deemed it to be a moon watch. I soon discovered that I wanted a real, not a replica, moon watch and began my search for a model 105.012 which is well documented to have been worn by Armstrong and several of the moon walkers. Eventually with the help of Chuck Maddox, moon watch guru, I found my grail.
Here is a photo taken upon its arrival: Many of the vintage Speedy Pros are considered by their owners to be "safe queens" but in my opinion, a watch is not a watch if it is not worn. The watch was probably 95+ on the TZ scale and knowing that I wanted it as a daily wearer with good lume, I decided to remove the original parts for safe keeping and replace them with new hands and dial with Luminova. The dial was new from the '57 Replica with applied Omega symbol and I found NOS case, crown, and pushers. The watch came on a strap as shown in the arrival photo but I have worn it on a variety of straps and bracelets including the much sought after ref. 1450. Last year I decided to put it on a NOS ref. 1498 bracelet which combines a vintage taper with the modern look of the current ref. 1998. The bracelet fits up to 7 ½" wrist and comes with two extra links. Now the time has come to part with my "precious" along with all the original parts including the bezel still in place with the "dot over the 90." > The mainspring was replaced in 2011 and a complete service performed by an Omega certified watchmaker. Asking $4995. |
