Rolex Service

I have just received my daughter's GMT - Master II Pepsi can from Rolex following a service.

The watch had stopped and was in desperate need of a service, she has had it some time and had initially worn the watch on the same wrist as a number of bracelets..... much to my disgust! But who am I - I just had to pay for the service. This had resulted in multiple dents and scratches.

The watch also had a mark in the glass and it was specified that the glass was not to be replaced as part of the service. The bezel has aged and was also not to be replace or refurbished for obvious reasons.

After seven weeks the watch has been returned from Rolex. The glass had been changed. The dealer expressed to them hat it was not to be replaced and they have agreed to waiver any charge for the replacement. The watch was presented to me in a green Rolex suede bag, such a change from the plastic zip bag that my Submariner was returned in. The watch itself is absolutely mint. Restored to its former glory, an item of beauty.

My daughter is now 22 and so may appreciate the item more than she did in her teens. It also means that she will return my Submariner so that I may appreciate that......

I would recommend to any of the readers the use of Rolex official service. It may be an expense, but so was your timepiece in the first place.

I don't like hearing that they just changed the crystal despite being told not to. Waiving the fee is the least they could do. I have always sent my watches to RSC without problem, but I do worry if making special requests that they will not follow them, and if after doing the wrong thing they can't it right more than to waive a fee, then it's to be considered whether to go the RSC repair route at all with vintage pieces with special requests. It would have been better had they kept the glass long enough to put it back the way you wanted it.

Glad you're happy, but I wouldn't have been.

Rolex will only replace the crystal if it does not pass the water resistance/pressure test.

Acrylic crystals are routinely replaced within the cost of the service.
Sapphires are only done at customer request and charged.

Which type was on the GMT?

Glad you're happy with your daughter's GMT & the liberation of your Sub lol

Ps
RSC recently replaced the sapphire on my OQ despite specific instruction to the contrary,
they offered a thousand apologies but still charged me for the privilege.

I had a health issue to deal with at the time so let it slide as I figured life's too short for trivialities

77T, it is a sapphire crystal as opposed to the acrylic. It was a small chip in the edge and would have passed the pressure test. Rolex said that the watch should be returned and they would replace the old glass if I would not pay, however, the dealer argued that was unacceptable and the fee was waved.

Well, I, for one, will always let them change the crystal if the original is chipped, damaged, or aged... It is the prudent thing to do to avoid a catastrophic failure..

I was satisfied with my service too from the RSC, just got a Datejust back in March. Didn't send specific instructions.

Did you send it in directly or did you have the AD do it? It's possible the AD erred.

Thanks - then you got a nice outcome. Agree that a simple chip wouldn't trigger a replacement.

Glad you are happy...if they did not follow my instructions, then I would not have been so forgiving.

And if it was a acrylic these are always changed as part of normal routine service.

Why chance it. If the crystal was chipped it could compromise the water resistance.

Serviced via AD in Newcastle, UK.

The watch was purchased at Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons in Dubai. Their choice exceeds expectation.....and always room for negotiation.

Thanks......I've had two dealings with the UK RSC, first via an AD where I was effectively a third party and not overly impressed and the second direct with St James which was top notch. I can understand why you would use an AD rather than go direct when up in Newcastle!

Glad they agreed to waive the cost of replacing the crystal. I love the fade on that bezel...........and the BLNR looks pretty decent too!

I have a 5513 that underwent the full treatment a while back at an RSC - pricey but amazing job!
