What's the general communities perception. The picture looks real but the feedback on the guy is low.

Is 2,700 reasonable for a 1998 Explorer?

Personally, I think the watch is real. The bracelet code and end pieces both match for a SS Oyster bracelet with a flip lock found on both the Explorer and the GMT. Mismatching numbers and/or incorrect numbers are where most fakes mess up. The date font looks OK and more importantly, it looks OK with more than one date. The crown looks correct. Some, but not all, explorer fakes I have seen have a large submariner crown on them. Also the fakes today all copy the solid end links and this has no SEL, which would be correct for this time period.

Ask him when the watch was last serviced. If it has never been serviced, you are looking at $500 to service it. I let my GMT go 10 years without being serviced and I paid for it in the end. An unserviced, 1o year old Explorer for almost 3K is in the ball park....all in my amatuer opinion of course.

Also,If you are buying with Pay Pal, check to see what protections you have and what you have to do to get your $$ back if you have too.

I've gone through all his feedback, and his purchase feedbacks are much more interesting than his sales. He's made a significant number of Rolex purchases recently, but for most of them he was the only bidder.

My radar's up on this one, I'd pass.

Thank-you all for you feedback. I am learning. I like the honest feedback I get from people and the way we are watched after. I would do the same as well.

This is a great place to be !

I thought that was a little odd too. A few looked questionable but none were the one he's auctioning. I defer to Al on this one as he has the experience of navigating the eBay/Rolex minefields. I still think it's authentic but remember, the seller has to be as well.

I don't know. He only sold one small item. He did purchase a bunch of Rolexes with buy it now from different sellers that appears legitimate.
This one was from a third party seller, he got a good deal.

What makes me think it is legitmate is the way he answers questions.

Q: Sir/Madam, I found your actions on ebay and i would like to buy your item. I lived at Indonesia. Is it possible for me to pay it using my credit card as a payment? If it is ok for you can you hold the actions so i can buy it without bidding? And i also need an exact prices for this item. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Regards. Robet Feb-04-08

The watch and seller are very reputable...

I have bought over 40 watches from him over the past 5 or 6 years--his name is John Luton and he sells on TZ all the time... he has all the references you need to buy with confidence.

You can buy for $2550 on TZ and deal direct with him.

I'm looking for a white face Explorer II also & I've looked @ this watch before. It looks good but it's not a 1998 according to my sources. It's a 1996 according the books I have. A "T" prefix is listed for 1996. "U" started 1997 & went to about the end of '98. Then an "A" started in Nov/Dec of '98 & continued to Jan 2000, then "P" was started. I'm not saying it's not a good deal or anything like that but I was wondering why he didn't advertise the right date of the watch. He may have bought it in 1998 but I don't think it's a 1998 watch. You guys know a lot more about this than I do but I do think I'm accurate in this assumption or am I? Please let me know.
