Love hate the new Sub Date

I think it Looks great...Love the blocky modern take on a classic watch, but just find it too bulky feeling on my wrist with compared to the previous model...A photo essay...Sorry about the grubby Rolex

Sorry to hear that. Is it the clasp that is bothering you? I do not own a new Sub, but I can't imagine the case would feel that different....or is it a combo of the two?

BTW, your pics are better than anything I have ever taken!

Hi, yeah the case seems bigger on the wrist and yes, didn't even mention the clasp which is beautifully engineered, yes - But it is longer than the old style folding clasp..Just not as comfy...(IMO)

I got mine about 6 months ago. I found the crown hit the top of my hand a lot throughout the day. I was sore at times. I dont wear it too tight and it floats about 2 inches either way, but I found I got used to it over time. At first I honestly didn't think I would get used to it. My previous was a Tag Heuer Link Chronograph and I didnt notice it on that watch quite as much as the new Sub.

I did purchase an 2005 Datejust and I find I never wear it because its too small. I much prefer the 41mm case than the smaller ones.

I had a LVC, and I didn't like the bigger lugs, what appeared as a thicker case, and the bulky clasp sitting below my wrist (felt like a scratch magnet).

The bigger lugs fill up my wrist better so I prefer the new size, one reason why I still don't have a Daytona.

i agree, i have been wearing the dj2 41mm lately for a few weeks.., then when i put on the sub c(nd), it appears blocky and bulky compared to the dj2's sleek elegant appearance on the wrist. the dj2 is a domed/smooth bezel version, so that might add the appearance effect i mentioned on the wrist.

nevertheless, i love the sub, it's a classic. and i've grown from disliking the maxi case style, to now really enjoy the different case styling from the dj2, or other rolexes, ie: the explorer 2 216570.

to the OP, if haven't done so, give it a try and wear the sub for a week straight and see again from there whether the watch grows on you.. cheers

Well, this is my first post here. I frequent another watch forum very often but that is mostly dedicated to another brand.

I recently purchased a new Sub C and I'm really thrilled with it so far. I love the weight, balance, clasp, ceramic bezel, lume, and the finishing on the steel to name a few!

I was very anti Rolex for quite some time, but I have come full circle on the brand after learning a lot more about it. With that said I have noticed that there are a lot of comparisons between the new Sub and the older versions. This is inevitable of course whenever a new model of anything replaces the older. I think they are all great and all have their pros and cons.

I look forward to learning a lot more about Rolex as a whole through this forum, and thanks for everything I have picked up from the site already.

I didn't like it either. Too heavy and the clasp sticks to my skin. Also, it just looks a little too slick for my taste. I like the 4 digit subs best.

I had the same issue. I much prefer the 16610 over the 11610. The case doesn't fit me as well.

Personally I find my Sub C one of the most comfortable watches I've ever owned. I had one link removed and the clasp sits perfectly. I guess we all have slightly different shape/size wrists and it's not going to suit everyone. Sorry to hear you can't get on with it though. Also welcome to SCO, I'm a relative newcomer but have also learned an awful lot from this forum.

Being an owner of a 1680, 16613 and a 116618, I can say the 1680 is the most comfortable in terms of weight. None of these are actually uncomfortable, however the 16613 is in a limbo size between loose and tight on me, no matter how I adjust it. No such issue with the older or newer models.
The 116618 is the best finished in terms of manufacturing process.

Having owned another 1680 that had very over polished lugs, the new case introduces a new factor: almost unlimited case refinishing. I would imagine that after 80 years of solid use and refinishing, the case dimensions would be getting close the the previous case instead of being junk if heavily damaged.

I love the ceramic, lume and clasp....but IMHO I think the lugs are a bit too chunky losing some of if the refined appearance the 16610 had. Almost appears bracelet width is a bit too small for the lug shoulders. I do like the more tapered look from the case into bracelet in the older ones...but certainly think the updated version holds its own indeed!

That's exactly why I got rid of my Sub C. Way too bulky and heavy. It wasn't comfortable to wear all day. The older ones I can wear for days and think nothing of it.

That's me. I love my 116619 WG sub, but the darn clasp nearly fills the underside of my wrist. It just isn't nearly as comfortable as many of my others and it gets booted off the wrist in short order.
