This happens to my wife and I at least three times a year. Once it was a plane ticket from Australia to the Middle East. That one was very questionable.

I just cancelled one of my cards last week after someone used my credit card number to order an $800 guitar online with all my information but had it shipped to a different address. The only reason I even knew this purchase was made is UPS called me asking me for the apartment number for the address to where the guitar was being shipped. The guitar was bought online from a store in California and was being shipped to a California address and I live in NYC!

So annoying! And it seems the credit card companies do little to stop this type of fraud.

Wow..all these examples are frightening. Thank goodness the CC companies have a way to track normal expenses or at least flag the ones that aren't so normal (flights etc).
Ive had this happen as well. Is a complete pain in the arse…after I chill out I think how easily it could have been worse that having a cancelled card.

Happened to me in Venice recently. I think i'll get one of those scanner-proof wallets or daypacks that have appeared on the market in recent times.

Happened to me twice. I recieved a call back in Feb. 2009 from my CC company asking me if I purchased electronics in Maylasia. Then in 2012 I saw a charge on my statement for 210.00 for pet food ordered in the U.K. It's always a headache to deal with.

Only once have I had a card "copied". I never got any bogus debits on it, just a letter with a new card from the CC company, telling me that had reasons to believe my card had been copied while on vacation in the US, and I should watch the debits closely. Never any strange stuff, perhaps it was a big buy by the "copier" and it got stopped in it's tracks.

Happened to us twice! They noticed the issue when at the same time I was buying a coffee, someone was buying gas in Montreal, so they automatically froze my card and called me! Turns out, it was part of a huge credit card fraud ring and almost a hundred people were arrested.

Still amazes me how many places won't ask for a photo ID when I'm using my credit card, and amazes me that all credit cards don't have a photo of the card holder somewhere on it. I'm sure the technology is there to make some kind of visual identification of the card holder a requirement for online purchases, too.

This has happene to my wife and I probably 3-4 times in 10 years. It is a PITA and has lead to me only using CC instead of debit.

I used to travel a lot in Asia, every time I went to KL my card would be reissued a week later back in OZ. It is part of our modern life.

It happened to me recently, the bank rang me to say someone had just charged a pile of money to my Mastercard in the UK (I'm in Oz) and should they ok it, I told them no so they declined it and cancelled the card and reissued it with new numbers. There is a lot of thieving scum out there.
