Store Sub wound and hacked or totally unwound?

I do not have a winder and I was going to put my Submariner in a safe for a while and wear my vintage Seiko diver. (I've been working in an area where I do not want to advertise that I have a Rolex.)
Would it be best for me to wind it fully and hack it or just let it run all of the way down?

Thanks.

I see no reason to leave the main spring wound, and the crown open; there is nothing gained by doing so.

Either leave it on a winder, or let it wind down and reset when you want to wear it. My .02.

You should never wind it fully and hack it for long periods of time.. That would put the entire torque of the wound spring on the drivetrain's pinions, gears, and staffs..

Thank you. That's the kind of info I was looking for.

What does hack it mean? I keep me wg sub as a go out watch, which means it usually needs to be reset. I never wind it when it hoes down, just shake it until it is moving again. Am I messing up?

Hack is a military term meaning a stop seconds function to allow you to precisely set the seconds hand and minute hand.

Some watches do not have a "hack" function (though it can be done with slight back pressure on the crown).

Best to give the watch a full wind, set it, and put it on.

Any BNIB untouched Rolex I've ever gotten was sitting in its nest with the crown screwed down and not ticking when I opened the box. If that's how the factory stores them it's good enough for me.
