So HIGH says the AP has no feeling on your wrist (no weight) is how I interpreted. Anyone want to comment regarding that aspect? All would be appreciated.

If that is what he meant by that rather curious statement, he's wrong. It is a very comfortable watch, but nobody is going to mistake it for titanium; weight wise I'd say it's between the Explorer II and Sea Dweller closer to the SD IMO, certainly no lightweight.

I just recently purchased a Datejust II with blue arabic numerals and silver dial. White gold bezel. The watch is NICE. I really enjoy wearing it. I especially like the blue numbers and the fluted bezel in particular.
I also have an older 1980's era DateJust TT with jubilee bracelet and black dial. It is more formal; I am not a fan of the smaller dial though. The watch was my father's so it's staying with me forever. However, I have always been a fan of the Audemars Royal Oak and Royal Oak Chrono (not the offshore). I am very much into the 15400 with any color dial. I like the bracelet, the dial, and the fit and finish. I also like the large face. So I am obviously in the market for a 15400; for the right price. If you had to choose one; I would probably choose the Rolex DJII. I "think" the re-sale on it is better since everyone who doesn't know anything about watches at least knows Rolex. I'd say buy a pre-owned one so you can attempt to get out of it for the price of purchase if you had to. |

I vote the 15400. It purchased one very recently (black dial) and I can't take it off!
As has been mentioned in many previous replies, the details and workmanship on the RO are simply in another league compared to the DJII. |

Suggest you try on the AP and compare the look and feel on your wrist to that of the DJII which you have already worn. Then buy the one you like best for feel and look. IMO you have a great Rolex so why not branch out to the AP if you like it?

So I tried a AP Dual time and though it was only 39mm and a little small (surprisingly nice presence) I was really impressed. I am leaning towards an AP now. Just gotta make that jump to spending +10K on a watch. Worth it you think?

YES. The watch is the definition of quality and class IMHO. Look for Thanh Do in the Who's Who forum and see if he can find one for you. I know he was having a hard time finding more when I bought mine last month, but he had the best price.

Thanks Roger but Thanh has been banned for 30 days and can't sell here for an additional 30 days. Not his conduct selling but something else. What color face did you purchase? Got any pics?

I think when you look at the attention to detail that AP brings to the table with finishing the movement, case, and bracelet it gets easier to decide. You either value it or you don't. If you don't value that level of attention then buy the DJ.

Had the 15400 been 39mm I would've voted for it in a heart beat, but at 41mm it doesn't work. The discontinued 15300 never sang to me to be honest, so ultimately I'd have to go with the DJII.

Yes they are. I think someone posted the video of the making of the bracelet earlier in this thread, but if not just head to YouTube and search for it. Quite and amazing process and a ton of hand work that goes into getting the links perfect.
BTW - the SD 16600 was one of the watches I sold to get the 15400. I have a 7.25 in wrist and find the AP more comfortable than the SD, which was a bit top heavy, yet a great watch in it's own right. Quote:
https://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=331013 I didn't know Thanh got in trouble, but I found the thread about his temporary ban and that's a shame. He's a very responsive seller with excellent pricing. I hope it passes and he returns to being an active seller here.

Ok. So I pulled the trigger on my next 41mm. Mods should now move this thread to AP discussion forum. Very excited to see what Tony G has coming my way.
