To the OP, a Patek is on a whole new level compared to most Rolex and the Nautilus 5711 is one of the most iconic of watches. If you have the funds, go for it.

I respect Patek so much as a brand. I get their appeal, their style. They just don't sing to me the way some other brands do. I think if I was in the market for a Patek it would be for a high end dress watch and to that end there no other than the Calatrava.

I have a sub, a Daytona, a Lange 1815 which sort of captures the Calatrava for my collection, an AP 15300, and others including Panerai and three JLC's. I have tried on the 5711 multiple times, almost bought it once (blue version), next chance I had to buy one was the white version and given that I had just bought the white 15300 thought it was too close. Every time I delay buying because I feel it is too expensive, but when you look at the other watches I have bought, it really isn't , in my income bracket it is more like buying two watches. I wish I had bought the first blue one I had the option to buy (and at a good discount, amazingly). It is a fabulous watch, again, if you can afford it buy it. But keep the sub for knock around, they are tanks.

I had heard that the PPs can be persnickety, but didn't know that they might approach the fragile category. While I appreciate a ""Rolls Royce", I prefer the daily heartiness of a "BMW". The SubC LV is a beautiful choice for everyday wear. The GMT is close to that status as well, allowing for the relative softness of YG. Perhaps the Calatrava is the better selection since the probable limited wearing opportunities would compensate for the potential lack of durability. Looks like I better start a PP fund
