IWC Aquatimer
I have always like watches that go underwater. How far down?
Has anybody on TRF got an IWC Aquatimer? It is an automatic divers watch pressure tested to 200bar with a titanium case and bracelet. Any of you guys who are divers aware of what a head crushing depth 2000m is? Would the Aquatimer really be able to stand up to that? [Just curious]. No human could unless they were inside a submersible. How does it relate to a Sea Dweller? From what I can see from pictures of the AT, the case seems to be very THICK indeed. Does this mean that Rolex Steel is tougher than titanium? Maybe this is why Rolex don’t make titanium watches? Would anyone here agree that it is a watch that comes a close second to a SD? I can’t seem to find any review or comparison about this watch on the net. I would have to choose it over a Breitling Super Ocean. I may get one for snorkelling and leave my 16710 for travelling. Then again I might look for a pre-owned SD. Steve |

Did you consider a Seawolf? not as dressy as either the IWC or Rolex more macho ,sporty, casual, pure tool look IMO though, again titanium but as regards bragging rights on depth rating!!! 10000ft

I would seriously doubt if 75% of all so called Sports diving watches ever go deeper than the local swimming pool. Most recreational divers rarely dive deeper than 40m-50m.Professional divers breathing a gas Heliox oxygen/helium for bounce dives and saturation diving working to a max 200m.
But now use a gas called hydreliox rich in hydrogen.Professional divers working to a max of 210m and for around 2 hours, would have to spend about 10 - 12 days back in saturation chambers.Think the record for a controlled Hyperbaric dive is around 700m, as for the watch at 2000m,well I certainly don't want to find out.Steve that is a great picture, but please think of some of our members still ona dial-up,try and keep pictures 700X700 or under thanks mate. .

Steve, Padi is right alot of our members are on dial-up modems and the larger pictures are modems burners and take a bit of time to down load. It's best to keep them at or close to 700x700 for fast d/l times.
TARDIS, as Padi stated "seriously doubt if 75% of all so called Sports diving watches ever go deeper than the local swimming pool. Most recreational divers rarely dive deeper than 40m-50m." I would submit bath tub or shower depth would be more accurate for our members although, we do have some pro's on here who have and do dive professionaly. TARDIS, I would wear any of my following for Snorkling; my 5513, 1601 DJ, 1675 GMT Master, SD or even my Omega Speedmaster 1045. Heck, if I didn't have any of the ones I do have I'd wear a G-Shock, Casio or Timex. my 2 cents :o) |

IWC Aquatimer
Well, my 2 cents: I am a weekend diver (PADI open water) and I use several watches for diving. I bought a TT Sub and a Seamaster which I use on a very regular basis, and I just got a SS IWC Aquatimer (chrono) on rubber strap. I have to admit that the IWC is an outstanding watch. When I first saw it (magazine) I didn't care much about it, but during a visit to St Thomas I had the chance to take one in my hands and boy, that is a BEAUTIFUL watch. The weight, feel and looks of the IWC are awsome. Don't get me wrong, I love Rolex (2T Datejust, jubilee, white dial w/gold romans, DD 118238, shite dial w/gold romans, 2T sub black dial, EXP II white dial, DD 1803 on a black leather strap) but there are some watches that have made nice 'non Rolex' wacthes (Pnaerai Luminor Marina, Omega Seamaster, Fortis Flieger, Corum Bubble Casino - great for Vegas!, different from all the DD's you see there; and now the IWC).
Once again, back to basics: if the watch 'calls' you and you like the call; go for it! It's a personal issue; my wife hates the Panerai, loves the Seamaster and doesn't care about the Rollies...I enjoy them all. |

BTW did you mean my photo's? I haven't put any new pics in for a while because my camera is bust and at the repairers. The photo of the SeaWolf didn't take very long at all. I have dial-up and a 7 year old PC running Windows 98 S2. Maybe I shall get a new PC with my next tax refund check, then go broadband! Steve |

Once you've down loaded a large picture, just click on IMAGE (on the MENU bar right on top of your page) and then on RESIZE. The easiest thing to do is then click on HALF which will bring down the image to around the 700 x 700 size....perfect for your posting on this forum or any other forum for that matter. JJ
