16750 question
I am looking at a 16750 private sale. I have a few questions and hoping some of you can help.
Does the bezel on a 16750 click like the new GMTs? This one doesn't. Does it necessarily mean it's a fake if it should or does it mean some spring or mechanism in the bezel needs repairing? According to the seller this watch was only serviced twice, once by RSC HK and once 10 years ago by a local jeweller in Canada. He has both receipts, the one here says minor overhaul. The watch is over polished, the bracelet and the back are both polished to a shine and the case has lost its chamfers. Does this totally destroy the value of the watch? It has a Matt dial and the markers have no gold surrounds, is it correct for this watch? Most of the 16750 I see for sale has WG markers. Should it has quick set date? This one doesn't. Most of the 16750s I see have a regular clasp this one has a sub style flip lock clasp, does it sound right? I plan to have a watchmaker to authenticate it but the one I use is too far for the seller and the one closer by I picked wants $120 to open the case to authenticate it, no paper work. this sound too steep to you? Sorry for the long post. I need to make a decision in a few days. I hope some of you may be able to help. Thanks in advance! |

The bezels do not click when rotated on the GMT-Master 1675 and 16750 GMTs.
The early 16750s had a matte dial like the 1675 model. All the 16750s had a quick-set date feature. You might be pulling out the crown too far while trying to change the date. Below is a photo of a matte dial 16750 pictured on the left next to the gold surrounds version of the 16750.

Some of these GMTs came off the shop with a Sub bracelet (a choice then). Besides, some people, ejem, me, have changed the clasp for safety.
As for you question about the acquisition, the overpolishing is the worst part of your description, but it all boils down to price. One word though. If you don't feel for iy, don't buy it, even if cheap? You will regret it... |
