Interesting detail

That said, after holding them next to one another, my choice was crystal clear. Simply put, I didn't get that dial-kissing-the-crystal feeling from the new version, which, for me, is pretty much the point of this watch.

Now, this isn't to say that I don't like the 40th Anniversary, but when the above is coupled with the other issues I mentioned (dial color, rotor, bracelet...), I knew that the previous version was the watch for me. That said, I have a couple of friends who absolutely swear by their 40th Anniversary Jumbos and think I'm completely nuts for passing on it.

YMMV, and all that jazz... ;-)

Adam
Interesting, is it a thicker bezel /crystal or combo of the two, Can details be seen in Pics?
Which did you settle on?

Hi Adam can you help out, it seems you clumped the differences together.
The rehalt being closer on the old is a cool feature so I assume tiff like that better.
The dial color, I assume you are preferring the old model though it's not as correct as the new one?
The bracelet, are you advocating for the old ap clap is overall preferable? No mention of the bracelet , case, and tic tacs being even.
Rotor, I'm sure most agree

Thanks Adam

I went with the previous version, though I did hold out until I could see the 40th Anniversary in person. Yes, I can see the difference in pictures, with the rehaut being deeper, perhaps as a result of a slightly thicker bezel.

I outlined my specific reasons for liking the previous version of the 15202 on the first page in this thread, however, yes, I do prefer the "AP" clasp and thinner bracelet on mine, as well as the charcoal dial. I'm aware that charcoal isn't the original color, but even so, I prefer it to blue. Had the 40th Anniversary Jumbo been offered with a charcoal dial in addition to the blue dial, my decision would've been a lot harder.

Ultimately, I'm of the opinion that AP made a conscious decision to "beef up" the Jumbo in an effort to give it more weight and wrist presence relative to the 15400, hence the thicker bracelet, the "heavy-duty" clasp and more substantial bezel. After all, to the casual watch buyer who's looking to put an AP on their wrist, the up sell to a Jumbo can be a tough thing -- "Yes, it's considerably more expensive, but, no, it doesn't have a second hand, it doesn't have a quickset date, it's thinner and more delicate..."

The above notwithstanding, there are aspects of the the 40th Anniversary Jumbo that I prefer, such as the petite tapissiere dial, which is a winner IMO. And overall the dial to be cleaner without the arabics on the minute track or the white outline around the date window.

As has been said several times already, the Jumbo is a winner in any of its incarnations. It's a true icon, and the utmost expression of Genta's genius, IMO.

Regards,
Adam

This is the most beautiful picture of the previous version of the 15202 I have seen. The dial color is amazing. So surprised it's charcoal grey, it looks a nice dark blue...

And this is the most beautful picture of the 15202 40th I have seen. The Dunhill is also great. What a combination. Love your style!

And this summarizes it nicely
