I was in a shop yesterday looking at a pre-owned YG Day-Date. And I was wearing my TT Datejust that I bought new last month. It seemed to me that the color of the gold on my watch was slightly more copper than the Day-Date (which the salesperson said was early 1990's), and the gold on the Day-Date was more yellow-ish. It's possible the since my watch was never buffed, and the Day-Date had recently been buffed to remove scratches, that's what made them look different. But I was wondering if Rolex ever changed the alloys they use in their 18kt gold watches over the years.

Your DJ sounds like it is made from Everose gold, rather than YG. Rolex did not offer Everose in the 90's.

I would think brushing would not remove the alloy, as the alloy would be distributed throughout the metal.

No. My DJ isn't everose. And the difference is subtle. I'll need to take some pics next time I'm there.

Rolex mixes their gold in batches and has also changed the blend over the years so I'd expect some variance.

Older DD's have always looked more yellow then a TT DJ bracelet.
