I actually prefer Lagavulin 16, Ardbeg Corryvreckan and Bunnahabhain 18 over the Uigeadail. Lagavulin is actually my favorite Islay, cliché as it may be.

Uigeadail just is way too sweet for my taste, and it gets in the way of the smoke and oak.

I am probably in the minority, as most critics will say that the Uigeadail is the ultimate Islay malt. Maybe it just isn't for me.

I feel like Islay is getting way too much attention these days and great malts back in the mainland are being forgotten. Glenfarclas 15, GlenDronach 15, Old Pulteney 17 and 21, Highland Park 18, Mortlach 16 and anything from Springbank are all worth checking out. Maybe smoke and peat are just "in" right now.

Yesterday evening, after a BLAT in my Lotus (Caterham) Seven, I parked up at a favourite spot in the Surrey Hills (UK) and enjoyed a pint of Shere Drop from the Surrey Hills brewery. Lovely.

When in France at home near Toulouse the tipple of choice is a glass of red from Fourques or Corbieres region.

Either spot sees me glancing at my '67 sub to keep an eye on proceedings.... ;)
