Woe is me...
My wife bought me a blue Sub 7 (model 1803)years ago as an engagement gift. On Saturday we went out for our 10 years "together" anniversary and I of course chose this watch for the evening.
Well yesterday I put it on and the time has stopped. No big deal, probably didn't get a full wind on Saturday and I didn't wear it on Sunday. So I wound it, set the time, and headed to work. Halfway through the day I notice the time is wrong and the second had isn't moving. So I wind and set the time again. Nothing is moving, second hand twitched but that is it... Ack! So I took it to the AD last night. They of course recommended a service, has been 7 years. So now I'm paranoid that it is only a service and nothing worse. Also paranoid because I told them to absolutely NOT polish anything (bezel and crown are new and I don't want them worn away). So I'll be sweating it until I get the estimate in 10 days... Plus another 6-8 weeks for the service... Price I was quoted was $600. They are shipping it to the new PA service center. Worse news yet, the watchmaker who I had always used at the AD has retired which is why it is being shipped and not being serviced in house. On the plus side, the sales lady was very nice and knowledgeable. We played several rounds of Rolex trivia and we both held our own. So now I have to sit and watch the calendar until I hear back that it is hopefully just a service and nothing worse... Sorry for the rant, just a bummer... Scott |

Should have just sent it yourself to one of the RSCs or one of our watchmakers like Rik. Would shave a least two week of that time frame.

I think he meant 7 years ago. Model 1803 vs. Sub is still a bit confusing.

The parenthesis mess up the flow, he got the sub 7 years ago.
Hope you get the piece back quickly OP

$600 is the standard overhaul price at any USA RSC. When you send it in yourself you have to pay for shipping (both ways), so if the AD/Rolex is taking care of shipping that's great. RSC has always respected my clear written instructions ("do not polish," etc.); I wouldn't stress if I were you. Hope to see some pics when you get your watch back...whatever it is.

If this was a planned service, I would definitely use Riki. But since there is a panic component about it not working, I'm going with Rolex.
Also, I was probably not thinking absolutely strait since I was shocked that the watchmaker was not longer there. She has been the only person to touch the watch since I had it. I'm impatient at best, so I decided to have it shipped off right away. |

always a pain, but, when it gets back, you'll have many more years of memories to enjoy with it and your wife.

Just to reiterate... isn't a 1803 a DD? A blue sub from 10 years ago should be the 16613.

I will say, the AD's selection was awesome. Two Skydwellers, Platinum Daytona, several Yacht Master IIs. Very nice to look at.
I also looked at their used watches. Now those prices were OBSCENE!. About twice what they should have been... |

I haven't used Riki because I have a non-original bezel on my DD (still Rolex) but from what I've read on TRF you could not do any better than to send it to him (or Vanessa, for that matter). Now you have a total unknown working on your watch; I am sure it will work out but still...

I'm going to argue differently. Rolex themselves are not an unknown. And the AD has assumed responsibility for the watch. They are acting as my agent and are responsible for carrying out my instructions. I personally do not have to worry about shipping or tracking my watch. It is all on them...

Perhaps a brief search on TRF of issues members have had with ADs would be in order...

OP, I wouldn't worry too much about the fact that the watch stopped. All 3 of my families watches have stopped around the time they were due for servicing. The lubes just dry up over time or the mainspring breaks. (mainspring replacement is N/C as part of the service)
