I have made money and broken even, but mainly because of currency differences, since I usually buy in the US and sell back home in Brazil.

Made some on a few, lost on most. At the end of the day, I am far in the negative. I look at it as the cost of my hobby.

I've bought and sold TONS of watches...but I've only bought two Rolex's.

I bought a 16013 from a seller on here for $2250. I lost the two spare jubilee links because I didn't see them in the box and tossed it so I sold the watch for $2100 as a result.

Now the person who bought it from me is selling it for $2400 over on Watchuseek WITHOUT the box/polish cloth that I sold it with...So he's clearly trying to be on the positive side of a flip, haha.

O god. Going back to look I'm 2-9. Oddly the two I made money on were breitlings that I bought and never wore. Can't quite make sense of that.

I have learned over time. I buy used and only brands that maintain a decent residual value. I never buy without full boxes and papers. I avoid impulse buys and keep them for a year or more. Haven't lost money since using that method.

Let me clarify, when I say flip, I may have kept the watch for several months or a year or two before the eventual flip.
You paid for it, you can call it whatever you want.

This or some version of this with a little bit luck appears to be the winning formula for me as well.

The only Rolex I ever made money on was the sale of a SS Daytona. Others... well see Seth's post above.

Cheater. But that's the way to do it. You can buy a pair of socks in the US and resell them for 4x the amount in Brasil. lol

Yep, a few of the LE and SE Panerais yielded $2K+ each. Again, this was before the recent freefall.

I must be unlucky in my flipping habits. The only way I break even is if I assign a value for the enjoyment factor while owning them. I have made too many impulsive purchases.

Very true. It is actually cheaper to get on a plane, spend a weekend at a nice hotel in Manhattan overlooking the park, buy the watch and come back than it is to buy here.

Never lost money flipping a Rolex, but still don't feel lucky... I would feel lucky if I still had them all.
