I'm serious, Mark....way too expensive at an explosive US$9,000 and the stationary hand is something I can NEVER get used to....what a pain in the arse each time you look at your watch and have to look at a STOPPED second hand (that tiny miniscule moving second hand can hardly be seen!! ).

I've worn that Omega SMP chrono for the last year almost exclusively. It did take some time getting use to the second hand not moving. It was almost impossible to see the one in the sub dial. Now that I got the GMT I realized just how much I missed the second hand. Although I do like the sub dial complications on the dial.

I am still confused, why cant you run the 2nd hand all the time, it is the chrono hand for the 2nds, right...nothing wrong with running it, is there

JJ's afraid he'll wear out the gears if he leaves it running. The watch will be in less than pristine condition if he gets a little wear on them.

Why should this concern JJ? The tiny gears inside his chrome dome have been worn out for years... he should be used to it.

Hi Randy,

The experts advise to keep the Chrono stopped when not in use. One of them explained with the help of a superb illustration (wish I could find that link now), how the teeth on the chrono wheel are much smaller and finer than the main drive wheel. Hence, with constant running, the wear and tear on the chrono wheel could cause damage and unnecessarily wear.

It's true... and it's because Breitling fits their chrono movements with plastic gears on the chrono part of the movement, in an effort to shave some weight.

Ed tries very hard to stay one jump ahead of you.

He may try very hard, but he's old and slow (sorry, dad). I'm young and full of... well something ... and yet my hard work doesn't pay off.

I may have to start being nice to JJ all the time and focus ALL my hammering on Frans now, if I don't have a chance to climb the hammer ladder.

Randy, that is the truth, believe it or not. We all know JJ won't have the watch long enough for any noticible damage to be done. So have at it, man!
