Custom Rolex Watches
Wanted to get folks opinion on "Custom" rolex watches. Grail piece is the smurf, but like the no date sub best.
What if I had one of the custom companies (like bamford) create a no date SS "smurf" sub for me? Am I going to Rolex hell? Also, what if I have them put my initials above the "Submariner". Too much? |

I think Rolex considers modified watches counterfeit.

You are basically asking to have a fake Smurf made for you. Some companies will do anything for a fee.
You just won't be able to have Rolex work on the watch - though some independent watchmakers may... Plenty of folks put diamonds / engravings / different hands and inserts on their watches. No law against it. |

That seems awfully costly for what you get in return.
Would you not be better off with the real Smurf? Bamford seems to put a very high premium on the watches they customize for themselves. I can only guess what that premium might be for a one-off specimen.

Just buy a nd ceramic sub, find the smurf bezel - a few are always avail.
Then send the bezel ring and dial to mike young in hk. Have him color match The dial and send you back the parts. Have someone local reassemble. Done for way under $10k. |

I'd keep it original. Keeping it original makes it so much more Rolex-y. So much to chose from that is stock. However, whatever you like will be perfect for you.

Or is the bigger concern the price? I don't really know the price difference between Bamford and WG. Or if you could source just a real smurf dial and bezel for a SS sub, and then remove the cyclops. |

I like mine stock, straight from the factory.
Just be sure it's what you want because there won't be much of a secondary market if you lose the love for it. |
