@ Art 1.....I believe what you stated was "probably 1999" . Bob's site was for sure.

Just 'Swiss' on the bottom could also indicate a service dial, too.

But I agree that there's really no way to pinpoint a day, let alone a year of production. And that it doesn't matter all that much.

I do think that A serial Rolexes are interesting due to the dial variations.

Art was more honest - Bob doesn't have any super secret information.

If you really want to know the manufacture date of your Rolex, I suggest you get one from the mid-1950s to about 1970, as those have the quarter and the year engraved into the caseback (on the inside).

And why would it be a service dial on a A serial watch that was new in 1998-1998 in this time frame dials were changing from Tritium to Luminover. And Swiss only on the dial was used on all Rolex watches from approx 1998 to 2000 early- mid 2000 then they changed to Swiss made till present time.

Just a replacement dial, typically put on at service. Rolex will
want to do that if the dial is damaged or if the lume is no longer
working (esp. the tritium ones, which stop radiating over time).

Your 'swiss' dial is correct for the time period so almost certainly
is original.
