Advice on Rolex purchase Used or New?

I'm Debating between a Submariner and a Yacht Master.
Any Suggestions? Also your thoughts on whether to buy new or used?

Nothing wrong with used. Condition is everything along with age. If it is older, it may require servicing ($500 min). There are lots of good used ones out there.

New, you get peace of mind, knowing you are the only owner. I bought my first new, but the quality is so nice, I could easily see myself buying a used one now.

whatever better fits your budget. Buying new is, for me, the only way to go and, presumably, the more fun way of doing it.

I will second Nik's words: a "preloved" Rolex can be an excellent deal, just as long as you do your homework before buying. This means that you want to make sure that the watch is genuine (of course) and also know exactly what condition the watch is in (when has it lastly been serviced?). Also, you have to make sure you can trust the seller.

I for my part prefer paying extra and buy BNIB (Brand New In Box) from AD go have peace of mind.

As for what model to choose, I suggest you try on both and go for the one that appeals most to you.

But don't worry! Whatever model you choose, you can go wrong.

Choicing a watch is a very personal thing.
Would you go diving?
Do you like the polihed links on the YM?
IMO they are both very nice watches & you can't go wrong with either.
New or used will depend on your budget, I have nearly always bought new,but thats because I like the the thought that I have owed the watch from new.

I just bought a one year old Submariner from a fellow TRF'r. It was excellently priced and is very well cared for. To have this watch for $1,600 less than the cost of a new one from an AD is worth every penny to me.

There are reasonably priced used ones to be had. You just have to be careful where you look. I trusted the seller and that is the key. Buy the seller----not the watch.

This is a second Rolex for me as the first one was from an AD in December. I did want one with a warranty. I also want a watch that can be in the line-up for rotation and a watch that can be worn while one is at the RSC getting serviced.

My other watch is a brand new TT GMT-Master IIc which I definitely wanted to have the warranty on as it was double the price of the one I just purchased.

If you have the chance to buy new it will probably give peace of mind as there have been reports of some needing warranty service. It is an expensive purchase.

2 very different watches, but both classic. I would be tempted by the pre owned YM, but that is just me. Best of luck.

My first Rolex, a TT Sub I purchased used from a friend who purchased the watch new, my TT Datejust I purchased new. More than likely my next watch will be a used one, just due to the savings factor. As most on here advocate, if your going to buy used, buy the seller first

Both of my Rolex watches and Tudor were purchased "preloved". Takes much more time and effort but well worth it for me in the long run. Insures many more watches in my collection.
Having said that, you need to follow your own comfort level.

I prefer new but that is me. I always wanted a TT. At the time, I could only afford SS, so I got a new SS Sub and loved it. Years later when I could afford it, I got a new TT Sub.

Probably the only used Rolex I would buy would be a "vintage" model such as a bubbleback or older AirKing. I've always thought best to buy new, but that's just me.

I see nothing wrong with buying new, pre-own or grey. If you have the money, want the 2 year Rolex warranty, don't want to take the chance of possibly buying a fake and want to create a relationship with an AD...then go ahead buy new. If you want new, but don't care about the warranty and want to save some money, go with grey. And if you want to save a lot of money, buy pre-own but just do your research first.

The two Rolexes that I had purchased were mint from the vault. I like the idea of being the first one to put it on and take the stickers off. And since I have a RSC close by, I like the idea of a warranty.
