Datejust - Engine Turned or Fluted Bezel?
Hi Guys,
I'm going to buy an all steel Rolex Datejust. I want one with a jubilee bracelet which for me rules out the plain polished bezel. They have one that I like with a nice blue dial and roman numerals and it has an engine turned bezel. So what do you think? Go for it or hold out for a fluted bezel? I like both but if someone put a gun to my head I would have to say the fluted white gold wins....just. Lets have a little vote..... Interested to hear some opinions. |

My wife had the same dilemma recently as she was looking to buy a new watch.
Having tried both on the fluted bezel won hands down. It's a beautiful iconic design, the other version looks as thou it's missing something IMO |

Hi,
Personally, I'd hold out for the fluted bezel. I'd say that a Datejust in Rolesor on a Jubilee bracelet with a fluted bezel is about as classic a combination as you could get. |

In my opinion, the fluted bezel "dresses it up" a bit more. Engine turned, for some reason, looks a little more rugged to me.

Fluted is more dressy.

I love the way my white gold fluted bezel reflects the light onto the headliner as I drive. DayJust with fluted bezel? Classic way to go!

If you like the watch then buy it.
You can always change the bezel later. |

Looks like fluted wins hands down. I think I will hold on.
I could change the bezel but there are plenty of them floating around I will hold on. I do think it's wired that there's no love at all for the engine turned bezel. Unless they like to team it up with an oyster bracelet. |

I think it was just never really as popular as the smooth or fluted - which is probably why it was discontinued when the re-designed range was introduced in 2005. I remember even when it was available new, it was almost never seen in AD's windows (for whatever that may be worth). Of course there's still plenty of older pieces with an engine-turned bezel to be found pre-owned, and who knows, maybe it will be re-introduced in the future. |

I didn't know of the different bezels when I got my DJ, but fluted was my first choice, still is.

I prefer the fluted bezel on the DJ with a jubilee bracelet (and on the DD with "president" bracelet). Not only is it a classic Rolex look but that fluted bezel really sparkles in the sun.

The fluted bezel is white gold. The smooth is steel. What is the the engine turned bezel made from?
Either way, I like all of them. |

Fluted, hands down for me. The way the light shines off the beautiful bezel when I slowly tilt my hand, it's a thing to die for!
Plus the fluted bezel + cyclops is a no-brainer identifier of the brand in any nook or corner of the world. You might want to check this: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=85265 |

The engine turned bezel is made of steel. When I got my first Rolex, which was a Datejust, I sat in the A.D. and agonised for hours about which bezel to go for. In the end, I went for the model number 16220, which was the engine turned version! |

Fluted.
Engine turned just seems too unfinished to belong on a Rolex in my opinion. |
