Capetown diamonds buying online?

How have your experiences been buying online? It seems the majority of the reviews here are from in person payment.
And the few negative reviews are from online purchases where the buyer wasn't able to examine in person first.

Most importantly,
Since they charge 5% for using a credit card, how easy has it been getting items returned for issues when using money order or their other preferred payment forms?
I'm trying to decide if the extra 5% is worth the lost protection of not using a credit card. Thanks!

Go with the trusted sellers here on TRF. I know David SW takes credit cards. I have done several deals with Capetown in the past before I found this forum and they do a good job selling but it is difficult to communicate with them and the customer service, at best, is average compared to out Trusted Sellers here.

Be wary of their own custom dial line, as RSC will not service such a dialed watch.

Thanks for the info guys

I'd obviously prefer to go through a trusted seller but in this case there is a specific model that I can only find on their store.
Any other experiences?

I have dealt with them many times over the years. Their customer service has declined in the last few years. It is hit and miss. They will not scam you but I would get an agreement prior to sale that protects you. Deal with Jonathan. Good luck.

Bought a watch two years ago from them

Just let me start by saying that I did buy a watch from them two years ago in May 2012. The watch appeared to be great with all original Rolex parts. It was a date just with pyramid dial and oyster gold and stainless band. The watch also had a fluted gold bezel. I paid $4300.00 for it thinking i was getting a good product and price. Lets jump ahead two years to around April 1, 2014. I put my watch on one day and didn't notice until the end of the day that the watch was not working. I went to my local authorized Rolex retailer to see if they would look at it on the spot. They stated they would have to send it in and if the estimate amount came back over $900.00 they would call me before performing any service and if a if lower they would just fix it and charge me. This had to be sent out to the Dallas Service Center. I received a call from the local Authorized Rolex Jewelers on 04/30/2014 and the cost is $2500.00. I will go over what they found. The bezel is not original they will have to replace and will give me credit for the after market one that was put on. The dial and hands are not original they will have to be replaced also. The watch was never serviced in the 20 years it was in production. The whole inside is going to be serviced since it was not working. The company I purchased this watch from never told me some of the parts were after market or replaced with non Rolex parts. I decided to get the watch repaired to be a 100 percent Rolex that I was expecting to pay for. If I would have known then what I would have known now I never would have purchased from them. The cost of this watch has cost be about $6800.00 with the original purchase and repair. I could have probably picked up one from the ARD, used/preowned of coarse, for the same price, $6800.00. I have checked this company out on the BBB and they have a really good review and other reviews seem to be good. Just word of warning if you buy a Rolex from any place, other than a ARD, that does not have original parts the Rolex service center will not touch it until they put their original parts back into the watch. I believe this is why most of these companies that sell them want you to send them back to them because you will never find out what kind of mistake you made by purchasing from them. Just my opinion and word of caution.
