Donor dials on Daytona 6263s
I am looking for info on donor dials that were used from 6239s on early model 6263s. I read, although not common, that Rolex used donor parts from time to time from old models on first run newer models, especially in the 60s and early 70s.
I have a Daytona 6263, circa 1972 with what I believe is a late version 6239 dial (black with white dials and white "Daytona" above the center chrono). Here is one article I found today on the topic, any additional info or thoughts, pictures, testimonials would be much appreciated. I was really lucky to acquire a correct 6263 dial (for the cost of a used submariner) for the watch but I want to do more research before I start swapping out parts. http://rolexpassionreport.com/7812/t...er-cosmograph/ |

I believe there are instances where 'donor' dials could have been used, however, 6239 and 6263 would not be an example. 6239 used non screw down pushers, and thus not 'oyster'. Where as 6263 is an 'oyster' model. So the dials, even though can physically fit, are clearly for different models. Could 6239 dial be used on 6241 - yes (I actually do not know the difference between these dials - maybe someone can provide additional information).

What about 6262? I have a 6262 w/ a 6263/65 dial which is clearly not correct (Oyster). But I purchased it from the original owner and he says the watch has only been serviced by Rolex twice and that everything is original. He has no knowledge of the dial ever being changed, and further claims the watch was purchased with this dial from established AD in Switzerland in 1972.
I am actively searching for the correct dial for this watch, but part of me wants to keep it as-is based on the original owners word. |

"Those lucky owners of Rolex Daytona Oyster Paul Newman like my friend shows us below should have a closer look at their dial and play with the light and a microscope to search for the hidden Daytona..."
Enough is enough - can't you just enjoy the watch without a microscope? |

Turns out the face on my 6263 is from the 6362 and 6264 models, not a 6239 dial. I'm the third owner. Second owner didn't replace any parts, not sure if the first owner did.
