Thanks again for all the input. The watch is currently in the capable hands of our esteemed resident Floridian watchmaker. It is indeed a non-hacking 1575 in there, sounds like it just needs a good overhaul! I'll post some pics when it's back, of course.

At least you have a 5500 to keep you on time until the the nipple gets back

I meant to update this thread sooner; I should mention that the date wheel now clicks over cleanly as it should. Rik gave it some TLC and didn't even have to replace the silver open-6 date wheel.

so, what did it actually 'need' - just cleaning and adjustment, or a jewell or what, please?

Rik did a standard overhaul first, and the issue persisted, so he dug deeper. If I understood correctly, the issue ended up being a warped date indicator seating.
