GMT II 116713, which options

Hello all, so my chase for a GMT II 116613 have come down to this options, which one should I take?

1. Buying one from a ebay seller with 2500 positive ratings of 100%. The watch dont have box or papers work. He can however give me a Rolex box with his own authenticy paper as they are watchmaker.

2. Buying from a seller f2f with fullset, box, paper work, cert, everything.

The 2nd option sound better ofcourse except that it cost 1000 euros more. So which one should I go with. The conditions of both the watchs are more or less the same.

I think option #2 of course. And I would wait for a nice pre-owned one to bring down that 1000 euro difference.

Do you expect to resell the watch later? Do you collect "full sets" watches or simply don't care about it being a full set?

well you need to buy the seller as there are horror stories all over, buyer beware, that said ebay is probably more of a risk than option two?

My choice of course is based on the assumption both watches are in the same condition.

I prefer option #2 but the price for the extras seems a bit steep (unless both watches are priced real well of course). While you don't wear the packaging, it seems everyone saves these things these days so in the future if you go to resell you will take a hit compared to all the full packages that will be available which you will be competing against when you sell. Might make it harder to move if you don't have the accoutrements. Also, while the difference in today's market might not be that much, it may be in the future since everyone keeps the accessories these days.

Having said that, while the packaging and paper work are definitely worth something, I don't think they are worth that kind of money today. So unless your research indicates that indeed is the price difference on the open market, then I'd go with the option #1 if flipping is a possibility in the near future. You won't lose anything on resale since you saved the money up front when you made the purchase. If having the complete set is not worth the difference in price you are currently being offered, then you'd actually make money on resale - you'd be paying 1K Euro less now and selling for say 500 Euro less in the future.

You really need to not just look at the two prices together, but also determine if the price of each is reasonable. If they are then the difference in price is about right. Otherwise obviously one is either over priced or the other is under priced.

BTW, I'm not big on Ebay ( spend too much time in the "Watch Out! subforum, lol), but unless you are good at spotting a fake or you are meeting somewhere that the watch can be authenticated, then a F2F doesn't really provide you any extra assurance either.

Assuming both a real, the overriding rule of course is condition is the #1 priority with any used watch.

Option two easily. If you ever want/need to sell the watch, few people would toucha 116713 that has changed hands millions of times with no original box/paper. You'll get your money back (more) easily.

Ebay with no box and papers on a well faked model is a definite no!
