The gentleman I've bought it from had bought it 20 years ago from Mr Dowling.
I picked it up for 700.- incl. book.
I think I did okay, what do the experts on the forum say ;)??

I don't claim to be an expert but I would say you got a good deal. The dial isn't in great shape, but it's ok, and the fact that it features in arguably the best Rolex reference/history book is a plus, and the book is probably worth US$100, too. I think you did just fine.

Thanks sir,

The dial is not in nos condition or anything but well,... The watch is 80 years old.
A little patina is, imho, appropriate.

Of course. I met James Dowling a few weeks ago, and nearly bought a 1920s Oyster from him.
