My First Vintage Rolex; Service Opinions Wanted
Hello
I just purchased my first vintage Rolex from the original owner. As he remembers it was only serviced twice since new and it was last serviced in 1998. Shortly thereafter, the owner stopped wearing it. I met the owner at my local Rolex dealer as he allowed them to open the case. The watchmaker told me the movement appeared to be in “exceptional” condition. The owner said it was never worn much. Now, I want to make sure I take a slow, well thought out approach to the service. My intentions are to wear this watch often, not quite a daily wear piece, but close to it. I don’t think I want the case or the bracelet polished as I don’t want a show piece, but something that I can wear without worry. The bezel shows some wear and is missing the pearl and there is a small piece of missing tritium on the hour hand and there is a scratch (or possibly a crack) on the bottom of the crystal. Other than that it appears to be in good condition. Does the bracelet appear to be correct? Should I replace the bezel? Do I polish the case and bracelet? Thanks in advance, Joe |

If its keeping time accurately and is water tight...I would leave it alone and enjoy it.

I don't think that's an option. It's only been serviced twice in almost 50 years.

Send it to Rikki. That case has had the crap polished out of it...at least Rikki can restore the chamfered edges.
